Homeschool (EP)
''Homeschool'' is the debut extended play by American musician, Kilo Kish. It was self-released on April 2, 2012, and supported by the single, "Navy". Background Kilo Kish attended the Fashion Institute of Technology, graduating in 2012, and during this period she began to pursue a career as a musician. Kish's roommates had set up an in-home studio, and together they formed the musical project, "Kool Kats Klub", of which Kish was a member. Through this exposure, Kish met Matt Martians of The Internet, and they subsequently collaborated on the track "Ode to a Dream", from the Purple Naked Ladies album. Kish's debut EP, ''Homeschool'', was produced by Pyramid Vritra, and featured collaborations with Vritra, Speak!, and Vince Staples on the track "Julienne". The EP was released as a digital download on April 2, 2012, and was supported by the singles, "Watergun", released on July 31, and "Navy", the music video to which premiered on The Fader on September 17, 2012. Kilo Kish
Lakisha Kimberly Robinson (born May 10, 1990), known professionally as Kilo Kish, is an American singer-songwriter and visual artist. Early life Kilo Kish was born in Orlando, Florida, on May 10, 1990. She attended Glen Rock Elementary School in Bergen County, New Jersey, but later returned to Orlando, where she graduated from Winter Park High School. Aged 18, she received a scholarship to attend the private art college Pratt Institute in New York. While taking a year off, she worked multiple jobs before enrolling in the Fashion Institute of Technology for textile design, from which she graduated in 2012. Kish began to pursue a musical career when her roommates, Smash Simmons and Mell McCloud, decided to set up an in-home studio, starting a project called the "Kool Kats Klub". It was through this exposure that she initially met Matt Martians of the neo-soul band The Internet, and collaborated on The Jet Age of Tomorrow's "Want you Still" and The Internet's "Ode to a Dream". Cloud Rap
Cloud rap is a subgenre of Southern rap and trap music that has several sonic characteristics of lo-fi in its hazy, dreamlike and relaxed sound. Many music experts credit rapper Lil B and producer Clams Casino as the early pioneers of this style. The term "cloud rap" is related to its internet birth and its ethereal style. Origins Cloud rap initially came out of Atlanta, Houston, and Memphis during the late 2000s. The term "cloud rap" is popularly used in reference to lo-fi, hazy rap. Elements of cloud rap, like lo-fi and dreamy atmospheres, can be heard as early as 2001 with cLOUDDEAD's self-titled album. Alternative R&B
Alternative R&B (also referred to as alt-R&B, indie R&B, hipster R&B, dark R&B, emo R&B and left-field R&B) is a term used by music journalists to describe a stylistic alternative to contemporary R&B that began in the mid 2000s and came to prominence with musical artists such as Frank Ocean, The Weeknd, SZA, Khalid, and others. It is considered to be "more progressive and diverse" than its mainstream counterpart. Hal Donell Williams Jr. (born November 11, 1991), better known by his stage name Pyramid Vritra (or simply Vritra), is an American rapper and record producer from Atlanta, Georgia. The Internet is an American alternative R&B band from Los Angeles, California. It consists of vocalist Syd, keyboardist Matt Martians, bassist Patrick Paige II, drummer Christopher Smith, and guitarist Steve Lacy. Their music is a blend of R&B, hip hop, jazz, funk, and electronic dance music. They have released four studio albums and three extended plays since their formation in late 2011. Vincent Jamal Staples (born July 2, 1993) is an American rapper and singer. Staples was once a close associate of Odd Future, Mike G and Earl Sweatshirt in particular. He is currently signed to Motown and Blacksmith Records.
