''Homer'' is a 1970 Canadian-American drama film directed by John Trent and starring Don Scardino, Tisa Farrow and Alex Nicol. The film was entered in competition at the 22nd Canadian Film Awards in 1970, although its inclusion was controversial; it was shot in Canada with a Canadian director, but financed by an American studio and told a story set in the United States, resulting in some debate about whether the film was sufficiently Canadian.Betty Lee, "Fourteen films in the running for Etrog's golden approval". John Trent (director)
John Trent (1935, London - June 3, 1983, Snelgrove, Ontario, Canada) was a British-born Canadian film director. He directed such films as Homer, Middle Age Crazy, and It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time. Before working in feature films, Trent worked in Canadian television in the 1960s, directing episodes of such popular CBC series as Quentin Durgens, M.P. and Wojeck, based on the career of the controversial Dr. Morton Shulman, then Toronto’s chief coroner. Unionville is a suburban district and former village in Markham, Ontario, Canada, 2 km (2.5 mi) west of Markham Village (the City of Markham's historic downtown), and 33 km (20.5 mi) northeast of Downtown Toronto. The boundaries of Unionville are not well-defined. Several neighbourhoods claim to be part of it however, this has been disputed between the various wards.
