Home For The Golden Gays
The Home for the Golden Gays (HGG), or simply The Golden Gays, is a Philippine non-profit organization that provides support and care facilities for elderly LGBTQ people. It was originally established in 1975 by Justo Justo (September 21, 1941May 18, 2012), a Filipino columnist, Pasay City councilor, and LGBTQ activist. Currently, there are around 40 active members of the organization, mostly aged 60 and above. They are colloquially known as "the ''lolas''" (''lola'' is Filipino for "grandmother"). Justo's house originally served as the main facility of the Home for the Golden Gays. However, the organization's members were evicted by the family of Justo a day after his death in 2012. Members with no families are currently temporarily housed in a small lodge paid for by one of their members in Pasay, while the rest have returned to surviving relatives. Justo Justo
Justo Justo (September 21, 1941 – May 18, 2012) was a Filipino columnist and Pasay city councilor. He was known as a flamboyant AIDS activist. Early life Panfilo C. Justo, widely known as Justo C. Justo or simply JJ, came from a poor family in the sitio of Manlumay, Leyte. He was born to Francisco Justo Sr. and Ma. Lourdes Milagros Cagoco on September 21, 1941. JJ sold local delicacies to support his elementary education. As a consistent honor student he graduated as valedictorian of the Barangay Palarao Elementary School. His father wanted him to become a lawyer, but after his early death JJ had to take care of his younger brother Francisco Jr. (Frank) and sister Edith. Career JJ enrolled at the Rizal Central Colleges in Pasay to pursue his high school education. They left Leyte when he was in third year at the Calubian High School. Swardspeak
Swardspeak (also known as gay speak or "gay lingo") is an argot or cant slang derived from Taglish (Tagalog-English code-switching) and used by a number of LGBT people in the Philippines. Description Swardspeak uses elements from Tagalog, English, Spanish, and some from Japanese, as well as celebrities' names and trademark brands, giving them new meanings in different contexts. It is largely localized within gay communities, making use of words derived from the local languages, including Cebuano, Hiligaynon, Kapampangan, Pangasinan, Waray and Bicolano. Usage A defining trait of swardspeak slang is that it more often than not immediately identifies the speaker as homosexual, making it easy for people of that orientation to recognize each other. Ladlad ( Tagalog for "coming out," "The Unfurled", from the swardspeak ''pagladlad ng kapa'' unfurling one's cape), formerly Ang Ladlad LGBT Party Inc. and sometimes colloquially known as "the LGBT party", is a Filipino lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) political party. Bakla
In the Philippines, a baklâ (), bayot ( Cebuano) or agî ( Hiligaynon) is a person who was assigned male at birth and has adopted a feminine gender expression. They are often considered a third gender. Many bakla are exclusively attracted to men. The polar opposite of the term in Philippine culture is ''tomboy'' (natively the '' lakin-on'' or ''binalaki''), which refers to women with a masculine gender expression (usually, but not always, lesbian).
