Holy Cross Church, Wanzhou
Holy Cross Church ( zh, t=聖十字堂, s=圣十字堂, first=t, w=Shêng4-shih2-tzu4 tʽang2, p=Shèngshízì táng) is a Protestant church situated on Tianlong Road in Wanzhou District, Chongqing. It was founded in 1923 by the American Lutheran missionary Rev George Oliver Lillegard (Chinese name: ; 1888–1965). History In 1923, when George Oliver Lillegard—an Iowa-born pastor sent by the Missouri Evangelical Lutheran Mission—arrived in Wanzhou (then known as Wanhsien an County was part of Sichuan Province) to set up a small mission station in Robert Dollar Building, Protestantism has already been introduced to the region by Anglican missionaries in the late 19th century. The Anglican Gospel Church was built in 1901. In 1925, part of Lillegard's residence at Gaosuntang Residential District, was converted into a chapel named Holy Cross Church. Wanzhou District
Wanzhou District () is Chongqing's second most populated urban core area on the upper reaches of the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River in China. It is currently governed as a district of Chongqing Municipality, bordering Sichuan to the northwest and Hubei to the southeast. It was formerly known as Wanxian or Wan County (). Prior to Chongqing's formation as a direct-controlled municipality, Wanzhou was part of Sichuan province. The urban core of Wanzhou is away from Chongqing's city proper. Three Gorges Dam
The Three Gorges Dam is a hydroelectric gravity dam that spans the Yangtze River by the town of Sandouping, in Yiling District, Yichang, Hubei province, central China, downstream of the Three Gorges. The Three Gorges Dam has been the world's largest power station in terms of installed capacity (22,500 MW) since 2012. The dam generates an average 95±20 TWh of electricity per year, depending on annual amount of precipitation in the river basin. After the extensive monsoon rainfalls of 2020, the dam's annual production nearly reached 112 TWh, breaking the previous world record of ~103 TWh set by Itaipu Dam in 2016. The dam body was completed in 2006. The power plant of the dam project was completed and fully functional as of July 4, 2012, when the last of the main water turbines in the underground plant began production.
