Holton Village Railway Station
Holton Village Halt was a railway halt on the East Lincolnshire Railway which served the village of Holton-le-Clay in Lincolnshire between 1905 and 1961. The station, which opened as part of a new motor train service between and , was the second station to serve the village after Holton-le-Clay and Tetney situated further to the south. The line through Holton-le-Clay remained open for freight until December 1980. History The station was opened on 11 December 1905 to coincide with the introduction of a motor train service by the Great Northern Railway. It was the second station opened on the East Lincolnshire Line to serve the village of Holton-le-Clay in Lincolnshire. Holton-le-Clay and Tetney had opened in 1848 but was over a mile to the south of the village and more convenient for Tetney to the east, whilst Holton Village Halt was in the village itself. Holton-le-Clay
Holton-le-Clay is a village, civil parish and electoral ward in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England, around south of Grimsby. The village is twinned with Sargé-lès-le-Mans, Sarthe, France. History Ditched enclosures and boundaries of possible prehistoric or Roman origin have been found, and earthworks of Medieval origin, with tofts and crofts, are evident within and around the village. In the ''Domesday'' account the village is written as "Holtone". It was within the manor of Tetney in the then Lindsey North Riding, and prior to the Norman conquest under the lordships of a Swein and Thorgisl. By 1086 the manor had fallen under the lordship of Ivo Taillebois. In 1885 ''Kelly's Directory'' noted a parish area of acres, and an 1881 population of 283. Tetney
Tetney is a village in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England, and just west of the Prime Meridian. History On the edge of the village is the site of a Marconi Beam Station from where telegrams were sent in 1927 to Australia and India as part of the Imperial Wireless Chain. When built it was state of the art and is important in the history of telecommunications because it established the first radio link between the United Kingdom and Australia. Only the bases for the masts remain; the original administration buildings are now a small industrial complex. Ordnance survey maps from the 1920s show an agricultural tramway running from the Humberstone Road (B1198) through Bishopthorpe to Low Farm. The Lincolnshire Wolds Railway (LWR) is a heritage railway based at Ludborough station, near Louth, Lincolnshire, England and the only standard gauge steam railway in Lincolnshire open to the public. The line is part of the original Great Northern Railway (GNR), a rail system that opened in 1848 and once linked Grimsby, Louth and East Lincolnshire with London. In early 2002, 2009 and 2013 the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway received a top national award from the Heritage Railway Association for its heritage railway efforts. Holton-le-Clay was a railway station on the East Lincolnshire Railway which served the English villages of Holton-le-Clay and Tetney in Lincolnshire between 1848 and 1964. It was originally named ''Holton-le-Clay and Tetney'', but Tetney was dropped soon after opening, even though the station was more conveniently sited for that village.
