Holmes à Court Gallery
The Holmes à Court Gallery is an art gallery located in the original Vasse Felix winery at Cowaramup (near Margaret River) in Western Australia. It is owned by Janet Holmes à Court. Exhibits The gallery displays works from the Holmes à Court Collection through a series of seasonal exhibitions. There is a sculpture garden extending into the grounds of the Vasse Felix winery, where sculptures by local artists are displayed in a garden setting. In 2013, the gallery installed The Art of Sound exhibition in collaboration with the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia. Art Gallery
An art gallery is a room or a building in which visual art is displayed. Vasse Felix
Vasse Felix was the first vineyard and winery to be established in the Margaret River wine region of Western Australia. Founded in Wilyabrup in 1967 by Dr Tom Cullity, it is recognised as a pioneer of the region, and also features an acclaimed restaurant in Cowaramup. History The first vintage at Vasse Felix was disappointing, with the harvest being substantially reduced by attacks from silver eyes, and by the after-effects of bunch rot. However, by the 1970s the winery was winning medals at the Perth Royal Show. Restaurant The restaurant at Vasse Felix was awarded two stars, and won the award for the Regional Restaurant of the Year, in ''The West Australian Good Food Guide 2013''. Margaret River
The Margaret River is a river in southwest Western Australia. In a small catchment, it is the eponym of the town and tourist region of Margaret River. The river arises from a catchment of just 40 square kilometres in the Whicher Range. The middle reaches pass through land cleared for agriculture, especially viticulture. There is a weir across the river just above the town. The mouth of the river is a small estuary, closed to the ocean by a sandbar that opens only seasonally. Margaret River is presumed to be named after Margaret Wyche, cousin of John Garrett Bussell (founder of Busselton) in 1832. Janet Holmes à Court
Janet Holmes à Court, AC, HonFAHA, HonFAIB (born Janet Lee Ranford on 29 November 1943 in Perth, Western Australia) is an Australian businesswoman and one of Australia's wealthiest women. She is the Chairperson of one of Australia's largest private companies, Heytesbury Pty Ltd, having turned around its fortunes after the death of her husband Robert Holmes à Court in 1990. She retained full ownership of the Heytesbury Group of companies until 2008 when her son, Peter Holmes à Court, assumed ownership, while she remained chairman. Education and career Holmes à Court attended Perth Modern School and the University of Western Australia, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in organic chemistry and a Diploma of Education in 1965. National Film And Sound Archive
The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA), known as ScreenSound Australia from 1999 to 2004, is Australia's audiovisual archive, responsible for developing, preserving, maintaining, promoting and providing access to a national collection of film, television, sound, radio, video games, new media, and related documents and artefacts. The collection ranges from works created in the late nineteenth century when the recorded sound and film industries were in their infancy, to those made in the present day. The NFSA collection first started as the National Historical Film and Speaking Record Library (within the then Commonwealth National Library) in 1935, becoming an independent cultural organisation in 1984.
