Holmes, New York
Holmes is a hamlet in the town of Pawling, Dutchess County, New York, United States. History Formerly Reynoldsville, the decision was made to change the name upon the discovery that there was already a post office with the same name in New York. The post office, railroad station, and subsequently the community they served was renamed to Holmes in 1898 after the Holmes family, who were prominent property owners of the area. Maybrook Line
The Maybrook Line was a line of the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad which connected with its Waterbury Branch in Derby, Connecticut, and its Maybrook Yard in Maybrook, New York, where it interchanged with other carriers. It was the main east-west freight route of the New Haven until its merger with the Penn Central in 1969. History After the New York and New England Railroad succeeded merging with the Newburgh, Dutchess and Connecticut Railroad at Hopewell Junction en route to the Fishkill Ferry station, they sought to expand traffic onto the newly built Poughkeepsie Railroad Bridge in order to move goods to the other side of the Hudson River, and the Central New England Railway was perfectly willing to provide a connection. Charlotte Finkelstein Brooks (September 16, 1918 – March 15, 2014) was an American photographer and photojournalist. Danbury station is a commuter rail station on the Danbury Branch of the Metro-North Railroad's New Haven Line, located in Danbury, Connecticut. The station is the northern terminus of Danbury Branch. The station is also a hub for Housatonic Area Regional Transit. History The original Danbury station opened in 1852 as the northern terminus of the Danbury and Norwalk Railroad. Throughout the history of the Danbury station, the station has had many different depots. The first depot was opened in 1852 and served as the headquarters for the D&N. The Danbury station would have three different depots over the course of its history from 1852 to today. Brewster Station
Brewster station is a commuter rail stop on the Metro-North Railroad's Harlem Line, located in Brewster, New York. A sizable amount of the station's ridership comes from across the Connecticut state line given the quicker trips, shorter headways, and (outside peak hours) lack of a mid-trip transfer to Grand Central as opposed to taking the Danbury Branch of the New Haven Line. Because of this, Housatonic Area Regional Transit (the Greater Danbury-area mass transit provider) has a route and a shuttle connecting Danbury to Brewster station. Poughkeepsie Station
Poughkeepsie station is a Metro-North Railroad and Amtrak stop serving the city of Poughkeepsie, New York. The station is the northern terminus of Metro-North's Hudson Line, and an intermediate stop for Amtrak's several Empire Corridor trains. Built in 1918, the main station building is meant to be a much smaller version of Grand Central Terminal. It was a source of civic pride when it opened. In 1976 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places as Poughkeepsie Railroad Station; it and Philipse Manor are the only Hudson Line stations outside Manhattan to be so recognized. Whaley Lake
Whaley Lake is located in the town of Pawling in southeastern Dutchess County in New York State, United States. It is the largest lake in Dutchess County. The lake is partially man-made as it is controlled by a dam at its northern end. The lake feeds into the Fishkill Creek which empties into the Hudson River at Beacon, New York.
