Hollywood/Santa Monica is a neighborhood in east Dallas, Texas, United States. The neighborhood lies to the northwest of SH 78 (East Grand Avenue) and the Tennison Park Golf Course. It is a part of a special conservation district to protect the subdivisions of Hollywood Heights and Santa Monica. About Hollywood/Santa Monica was one of the first conservation districts in the City of Dallas. It was created after a two-year effort to preserve the architectural integrity, and thus the value of the homes. Many of the area homes were built in the Tudor style before World War II. Lindsley Park is in the neighborhood and it is close to White Rock Lake, the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden and the popular Lakewood neighborhood. Education Hollywood/Santa Monica is in the Dallas Independent School District (DISD). The residents are zoned to Lakewood Elementary, J. L. Long Middle School, and Woodrow Wilson High School. State Highway 78 (SH 78) is a state highway that follows surface roads in a predominantly southwest-to-northeast direction in the Dallas area before traveling north-northeast to the Oklahoma State border. Route description The highway's southern terminus is at Interstate 30 in Dallas. From there, it follows Grand Avenue along White Rock Lake and then Garland Road into Garland as it passes Interstate 635. In downtown Garland, Highway 78 follows the central streets of Avenues B and D before joining Lavon Drive and moving northeastward. The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden is a botanical garden located at 8525 Garland Road in East Dallas, Texas, on the southeastern shore of White Rock Lake. White Rock Lake
White Rock Lake is a reservoir located in north-east Dallas, Texas (United States). The lake was formed by damming White Rock Creek, which today widens into the lake before continuing south out of the spillway and emptying into the Trinity River. The lake covers 1,254 acres (5.1 km2) in the east Dallas community. History Before it was a lake, White Rock Lake was a collection of farms owned by the Daniel and Cox families. The first record of the Daniel family farm is in the Family Bible of Thomas Walker Daniel. He and his wife Frances Herndon Daniel seem to have moved to the White Rock area in the late 1830s and early 1840s. Daniel's son had a good friend during the civil war named Cox.
