Hollies
The Hollies are a British pop rock band, formed in 1962. One of the leading British groups of the 1960s and into the mid-1970s, they are known for their distinctive three-part vocal harmony style. Allan Clarke and Graham Nash founded the band as a Merseybeat-type group in Manchester, although some of the band members came from towns further north in East Lancashire. Nash left the group in 1968 to form Crosby, Stills & Nash, though he has reunited with the Hollies on occasion. They enjoyed considerable popularity in the UK and Europe during the mid-1960s with a string of hit singles that included " Just One Look" (1964), "Here I Go Again" (1964), " I'm Alive" (1965; their first of two UK number-ones), " Look Through Any Window" (1965) and "I Can't Let Go" (1966), although they did not achieve US chart success until "Bus Stop" was released in 1966. The Hollies are an English pop/rock band from Manchester. Allan Clarke (singer)
Harold Allan Clarke (born 5 April 1942) is an English rock singer, who was one of the founding members and the original lead singer of the Hollies. He achieved international hit singles with the group and is credited as co-writer on several of their best-known songs, including "On a Carousel", "Carrie Anne", "Jennifer Eccles" and "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress". He retired from performing in 1999, but returned to the music industry in 2019. Clarke was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010. Tony Hicks
Anthony Christopher Hicks (born 16 December 1945) is an English guitarist and singer who has been a member of the British rock/pop band the Hollies since 1963, and as such was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010. His main roles within the band are lead guitarist and backing singer. Graham Nash
Graham William Nash (born 2 February 1942) is an English musician, singer, songwriter, photographer, and activist. He is known for his light tenor voice and for his contributions as a member of the Hollies and the supergroups Crosby, Stills & Nash and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Nash is a photography collector and a published photographer. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Crosby, Stills & Nash in 1997 and as a member of the Hollies in 2010. He was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2010 Birthday Honours List for services to music and to charity. Steve Lauri
Steve Lauri (26 April 1954) is a British guitarist and a member of the rock/pop band The Hollies. Early life and education Lauri was born in London. He began performing professionally in the mid seventies. Career Lauri started his working life as an apprentice in the avionics industry with GEC Avionics in Rochester, Kent, but quit to pursue his professional music career. Lauri worked briefly on U.S. Army and Air Force bases in Germany, and then moved on to the London pub circuit. In 1977 he joined pop disco group 5000 Volts, and the group toured the UK, Europe, Scandinavia and South Africa and had two top ten hits while Lauri was with them. They also supported the Stylistics on their British tour, including their performance at the Royal Albert Hall. Ian Parker (born 26 November 1953) is a Scottish keyboardist, vocalist, composer, DJ and producer. Ian has played keyboards with The Hollies since 1991 and with Clannad from 1988 to 2016, extensively touring the world and recording with both bands. He has also played with Elkie Brooks, Joan Armatrading, Killing Joke, Tom Robinson Band, Three Degrees, Moya Brennan, Samantha Fox, Mud, Peter Gabriel, Elton John, Phil Collins, Killer B's, Gloria Gaynor, Katrina and the Waves, Chuck Berry, the Nolans, Wall Street Crash, and the Platters, and has been Musical Director for the Drifters, Del Shannon, Percy Sledge and the Chi-Lites. "Look Through Any Window" is a song by the British beat group The Hollies. It was their follow-up single to their first UK chart-topper, " I'm Alive", and reached No.4 in the UK Singles Chart at the beginning of October 1965. "Look Through Any Window" was The Hollies' first American Billboard Top 40 hit, peaking at No.32 on 22 January 1966 (" Just One Look" in 1964 had been the band's first American chart hit). It made No.3 in Canada in the RPM Magazine charts, as well as in South Africa. "Just One Look" is a song co-written by American R&B singers Doris Troy and Gregory Carroll. The recording by Doris Troy was a hit in 1963. The Hollies, Anne Murray and Linda Ronstadt each achieved great success with the song. There have also been many other versions. Doris Troy version Background Details vary as to how the Doris Troy version came to be released on Atlantic Records. According to the book ''Billboard Book of One-Hit Wonders'', James Brown saw Troy performing in a nightclub (under her then-stage name Doris Payne), and introduced her to Atlantic. Peter Howarth
Peter Howarth (born 3 May 1960 in Blackpool, Lancashire, England) is an English musician, who is the lead singer of the English band The Hollies. He also has a career as solo artist and used to be a backing singer. In 2014 he released the CD album ''Evermore'' featuring his acoustic version of " He Ain't Heavy - He's My Brother". Performing career Howarth has worked with many artists, including Cliff Richard and The Who, as a touring and session musician. Howarth played Roy Orbison in the musical ''Only The Lonely'' at London's Piccadilly and Whitehall Theatre's to critical acclaim. He later co-operated with a band called "Reflections of a Rock and Roll Tour" formed by Moody Blues drummer Gordy Marshall and Moody Blues/Hollies keyboard player Paul Bliss. Bobby Elliott
Robert Hartley Elliott (born 8 December 1941) is an English rock drummer, best known for playing with The Hollies. He has been described as "one of the very finest drummers in all of pop/rock". Early life Elliott discovered jazz music when he was 10 or 11 and wanted to become a drummer. He attended Nelson Grammar School, but is a self-taught drummer, who learnt to drum with home-made brushes and sticks, on tins and other household items, by copying Chico Hamilton of the Gerry Mulligan Quartet and Gene Krupa of the Benny Goodman Orchestra. Elliott was an original member of Johnny Theakston and The Tremeloes, who formed in 1959. Fronted by the vocalist Johnny Theakston, Elliott drummed alongside guitarists Jerry Wilcox and Mick Hay, and bassist William "Bonny" Oliver. "I'm Alive" is a 1965 number-one UK hit single by The Hollies, written for them by American songwriter Clint Ballard Jr. However they originally passed the song over to another Manchester band, the Toggery Five, before changing their minds and recording the song, which became their first No. 1 hit in the UK Singles Chart. It spent three weeks at number one in the UK and was also a No. 1 hit in Ireland. The song was released as a single in the US, entering the Cash Box singles chart on July 17, 1965, and peaking at No. 84 week of August 14, 1965; it also appears on the US version of the 1965 ''Hollies'' album, ''Hear! "Here I Go Again" is a song by British band the Hollies, released as a single in May 1964. Background and release "Here I Go Again" was written by Mort Shuman and Clive Westlake. It was recorded on 13 April 1964 at Abbey Road Studios, EMI Studios and released as a single a month later by Parlophone with the B-side "Baby That's All", written by the Hollies' Allan Clarke (singer), Allan Clarke, Tony Hicks and Graham Nash under the pseudonym Chester Mann. The US release by Imperial Records in June 1964 saw it paired with a different B-side, a cover of Little Richard's "Lucille (Little Richard song), Lucille".
