The Holland Board of Public Works is a municipal utility in Holland, Michigan. It provides electrical power, drinking water, and wastewater treatment. Its service area includes the city of Holland and parts of Park Township, Holland Charter Township, Fillmore Township and Laketown Township. Electrical generation Electrical production began in 1893. The current flagship plant, the Holland Energy Park, was completed in 2017. It utilizes Combined cycle natural gas power generation. The plant has also taken over operation of the city's extensive snowmelt system, pumping the water used to cool down equipment in the towers through pipes throughout the city to melt snow. The former power plant, the James DeYoung, consisted of three active units. Units 3, 4 and 5 ranged in capacity from 11 to 29.5 megawatts. They had a combined capacity of 60 megawatts. Belle River Power Plant is a major coal- and natural gas-fired power plant owned by Detroit Edison, a subsidiary of DTE Energy. M-40 (Michigan Highway)
M-40 is a north–south state trunkline highway in the Lower Peninsula of the US state of Michigan. The highway runs from US Highway 12 (US 12) near the Indiana state line in Porter Township north through Paw Paw and Allegan to end in the outskirts of Holland. The current northern end is near Interstate 196 (I-196) at an intersection with US 31/ Business Loop I-196 (BL 196). In between, M-40 runs through mixed agricultural and forest lands and along lakes and rivers through Southwest Michigan. The trunkline was designated by July 1, 1919 along with the rest of the original state highway system along a route that is different that of today. Holland is a city in the western region of the Lower Peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan.
