Holiday In Europe
''Holiday in Europe'' was a long-playing vinyl album recorded for Bing Crosby's own company, Project Records at Radio Recorders in Hollywood and issued by Decca Records (DL-4281) in 1962. The album consists of twelve European songs. The orchestral arrangements were by Bob Thompson and the orchestra was conducted by Malcolm Lockyer at Decca's West Hampstead, London studios in October 1960. Crosby had recorded four of the songs with Lockyer on October 15, 1960, in London but a decision was taken not to use these vocal tracks. Crosby subsequently over-dubbed his vocals on all of the orchestral tracks in May 1961. Malcolm Lockyer does not receive a credit on the album cover. The album was issued on CD by MCA Victor, Inc., Japan (MVCM-294) in 1993. The album was also reissued as "Holiday In Europe (And Beyond!)" released in February 2019 by Sepia Records. Jerry Seelen
Jerome Lincoln Seelen (March 11, 1912 - September 12, 1981) was an American screenwriter and lyricist . Biography Jerry Seelen wrote lyrics for songs in musical films and wrote screenplays for radio and television. During his lyricist career, he wrote many songs for Milton Berle and Danny Thomas. In 1949, he wrote the English lyrics to the French song "C'est si bon" that is recorded by Johnny Desmond with Tony Mottola and his Orchestra in January 1950. On June 26, 1950, Louis Armstrong recorded the song with Sy Oliver and his Orchestra and his cover was a worldwide hit. In 1951, Dolores Gray sings the song in the short film '' Holiday in Paris: Paris'' which is the first film where the song is sung in English. Gorni Kramer (22 July 1913 – 26 October 1995) was an Italian songwriter, musician and band leader. Biography He was born Francesco Kramer Gorni at Rivarolo Mantovano (Lombardy). Despite the exotic sound of Gorni Kramer in the Italian language, which led part of his audience to believe he was a foreigner or had adopted a fancy pseudonym, it was his real name. His family name was Gorni, and Kramer his middle name, after the American cyclist Frank Kramer, who won the road race at the 1912 World Championships and made a strong impression on Gorni's father. Kramer learned music at a very young age, thanks to his father, a musician. The first instrument he learned how to play was the accordion, with which he performed as a child in his father's band. Pietro Garinei
Pietro Garinei (1 February 1919 – 9 May 2006) was an Italian playwright, actor, and songwriter. Brother of Enzo Garinei. Biography Garinei was born in Trieste in 1919. He later worked as a sports journalist for the daily newspaper in Milan and Rome, where he met Sandro Giovannini. Garinei and Giovannini discovered a shared interest in music and entertainment, and left the paper shortly after to found a satiric newspaper. In September 1944 they established a musical theater, Cantachiaro, which was named after a weekly satirical magazine they had contributed to. The first star of their theater was Anna Magnani. Following the end of World War II, Garinei and Giovannini collaborated with the Radio RAI. Hubert Giraud (composer)
Hubert Yves Adrian Giraud (3 March 1920 – 16 January 2016) was a French composer and lyricist. Career Giraud began his career playing the harmonica with Django Reinhardt's jazz group, the Quintette du Hot Club de France. In 1941, he was recruited by Ray Ventura to play the guitar during Ventura's big-band tour of South America. Six years later, he joined Jacques Hélian's orchestra in scoring a series of post-war romantic comedy films, including Georges Combert's 1951 feature, ''Musique en tête''. His song "Dors, mon amour", performed by André Claveau, won the Eurovision Song Contest 1958. Giraud (with lyricist Pierre Cour) wrote the song "Gitans" ( "Les Gitans"). It was further translated into English by B. Guilgud (a.k.a. Guilgudo) and A. Gill and recorded by Corry Brokken. "Sous le ciel de Paris" is a song initially written for the 1951 French film ''Sous le ciel de Paris'', directed by Julien Duvivier. In the film it was sung by Jean Bretonnière. In the same year it was also recorded by Juliette Gréco, as well as Anny Gould. Gilbert Bécaud (, 24 October 1927 – 18 December 2001) was a French singer, composer, pianist and actor, known as "Monsieur 100,000 Volts" for his energetic performances. His best-known hits are "Nathalie" and "Et maintenant", a 1961 release that became an English language hit as " What Now My Love". He remained a popular artist for nearly fifty years, identifiable in his dark blue suits, with a white shirt and "lucky tie"; blue with white polka dots. When asked to explain his gift he said, "A flower doesn't understand botany." His favourite venue was the Paris Olympia under the management of Bruno Coquatrix. He debuted there in 1954 and headlined in 1955, attracting 6,000 on his first night, three times the capacity. Dick Manning (born Samuel Medoff (Самуил Медов), June 12, 1912 – April 11, 1991) was a Russian-born American songwriter, best known for his many collaborations with Al Hoffman. Manning composed the first full-length musical to be broadcast on television. ''The Boys From Boise'' aired on the DuMont Television Network in 1944. Early years Manning was born in Gomel, Russian Empire, and came to the United States with his family when he was six years old. He studied at the Juilliard School of Music. Manning changed his name from Medoff in 1948.
