Sir David John Holgate (born 3 August 1956), styled The Hon. Mr Justice Holgate, is a judge of the High Court of England and Wales. Holgate was educated at Davenant Foundation Grammar School and Exeter College, Oxford. He was called to the bar by the Middle Temple in 1978 and took silk in 1997. He served as Recorder from 2002 to 2014 and Deputy High Court Judge from 2008 to 2014. Edwin Holgate
Edwin Headley Holgate (August 19, 1892 – May 21, 1977), was a Canadian artist, painter, muralist, and wood-cut artist. Holgate played a major role in Montreal's art community, and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, where he both studied and taught. He was known primarily as a portraitist and for his treatment of the female nude in an outdoor setting in a series of paintings and prints during the 1930s. Life and career Holgate was born in Allandale, Ontario, Canada, the son of Bessie Bell (Headley) and Henry Holgate. Holgate's family moved to Jamaica in 1895 where his father worked as an engineer. In 1897 he was sent to Toronto to go to school. In 1901 his family returned from Jamaica and settled in Montreal. Harry Holgate
Harold Norman Holgate AO (5 December 1933 – 16 March 1997) was a Labor Party politician and Premier of Tasmania from 11 November 1981 to 26 May 1982. Born in Maitland, New South Wales in 1933, Holgate was a television producer and journalist prior to entering politics, arriving in Tasmania to work for '' The Examiner'' newspaper in 1963. He first stood for election in 1972 but was unable to meet the required quota of 4,707 votes. From 1973 to 1974, he worked as a press secretary for Deputy Prime Minister Lance Barnard. In 1974, he was elected on a recount after the resignation of Allan Foster. He held his seat from 26 July 1974 until 1992, and was Speaker of the Tasmanian House of Assembly from May 1975 to December 1976. Mason Anthony Holgate (born 22 October 1996) is an English professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for club Everton. Born in England, Holgate is eligible to play for Jamaica through family heritage. Club career Barnsley Holgate was born in Doncaster, South Yorkshire and joined Barnsley at the age of nine. Robert Holgate
Robert Holgate (1481/1482 – 1555) was Bishop of Llandaff from 1537 and then Archbishop of York (from 1545 to 1554). He recognised Henry VIII as head of the Church of England. Although a protege of Thomas Cromwell, 1st Earl of Essex, Holgate had a career in the Gilbertine Order of which he became master. He was briefly Prior of Watton until the priory was dissolved in 1539. Most of the Gilbertine houses were lesser establishments which should have been dissolved under the Suppression of Religious Houses Act 1535 (only four out of twenty-six houses had revenues over £200 a year). However, Holgate is credited with using his influence to save them for a few years. Holgate is a semi-rural suburb of the Central Coast region of New South Wales, Australia north-east of Gosford. It is part of the local government area. It is located approximately five minutes from Erina and the shopping destination "Erina Fair", as well as seven minutes from beaches including Terrigal Beach. Holgate contains some great attractions including Firescreek Winery, Bamboo Buddha, the Matcham Valley Pony Club, and other attractions including the Katandra Reserve. This reserve contains a number of walking trails and Seymour Lake, a recreational destination. Holgate has been the base for many suburban runners since they can train at the Katandra Reserve. Holgate is a suburb of York in England. It is located about 1 mile west of Micklegate Bar in the city walls. Holgate is also the name of an electoral ward in the City of York unitary authority. The ward is currently bounded by the River Ouse from Scarborough Bridge to Ouse Acres on its northern boundary. Its western boundary is formed by one side of Carr Lane and Ouse Acres to the junction of York Road/Acomb Road, which forms part of the southern boundary. The remainder of the southern boundary follows Moorgate and Holgate Beck to the East Coast Main Line railway which completes the eastern boundary as far as the River Ouse/Scarborough Bridge. The ward contains the National Railway Museum and many historic buildings, including a restored 18th century windmill and a Cold War bunker.
