Hole In The Wall Golf Club
The Hole In The Wall Golf Club is an 18-hole private golf facility in Naples, Florida. Course The course was originally designed in 1957 by Dick Wilson, the well-known golf course architect. It opened in January 1958. It had a length of about and 103 bunkers. The course was renovated in 2009 and the number of bunkers was increased to 109. The material removed to dig the lake was used to "build up" the entire course to improve grass and course maintenance. The new longer course measures 6565 yards, has a course rating of 71.8 and a slope of 130. The regular course is 6230 yards, has a course rating of 70.0 and a slope of 128. Conservation The club's property includes nearly of wetland set aside for wildlife conservation, and is fully certified as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. Dick Wilson (golf Course Architect)
Louis Sibbett "Dick" Wilson (1904 – July 5, 1965) was an American golf course architect, who designed over sixty courses. Several of these still have a high reputation. He was known for his technique of elevating the greens when designing courses in relatively flat terrain, and for using ponds and bunkers to emphasize the aerial approach. Early years Wilson was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1904, where his father was a contractor. He worked as a water boy on construction of the Merion Golf Course in Philadelphia. Wilson was admitted to the University of Vermont on a football scholarship. After leaving university he joined the team of Howard C. Toomey and William S. Flynn of Philadelphia. In 1931 he supervised construction when Toomey and Flynn undertook a complete overhaul of the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club. The tricolored heron (''Egretta tricolor''), formerly known as the Louisiana heron, is a small species of heron native to coastal parts of the Americas; in the Atlantic region, it ranges from the northeastern United States, south along the coast, through the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean, to northern South America as far south as Brazil.
