Hold That Line
''Hold That Line'' is a 1952 comedy film starring the Bowery Boys. The film was released on March 23, 1952 by Monogram Pictures and is the 25th film in the series. Plot The members of the local university's trust make a wager that anyone can succeed in college if just given the chance. They enlist Slip Mahoney and his gang to prove the theory by attending the university. While the boys do not become academic scholars, Sach invents a "vitamin" drink that makes him invincible. They all join the football team and Sach becomes the star player, leading them to the big championship game. A local gambler, seeing an opportunity to make some money, kidnaps Sach to prevent him from playing. Slip and the rest of the gang rescue Sach and return him to the game. Sach is out of "vitamins," so Slip plans a ruse on the playing field that distracts the other team and allows him to score the winning touchdown. William Beaudine
William Washington Beaudine (January 15, 1892 – March 18, 1970) was an American film actor and director. He was one of Hollywood's most prolific directors, turning out films in remarkable numbers and in a wide variety of genres. Life and career Born in New York City, Beaudine began his career as an actor in 1909 with American Mutoscope and Biograph Company. He married Marguerite Fleischer in 1914 and they stayed married until his death. Her sister was the mother of actor Bobby Anderson (actor and production associate), Bobby Anderson. Beaudine's brother Harold Beaudine was a director of short action-filled comedy films. In 1915 he was hired as an actor and director by the Kalem Company. He was an assistant to director D.W. Taylor Holmes
Taylor Holmes (May 16, 1878 – September 30, 1959) was an American actor who appeared in over 100 Broadway plays in his five-decade career. However, he is probably best remembered for his screen performances, which he began in silent films in 1917. Among his earliest starring roles is in George K. Spoor's 1918 production ''A Pair of Sixes''. Early life Holmes was born on May 16, 1878, in Newark, New Jersey. ''Here Come the Marines'' is a 1952 comedy film starring The Bowery Boys. The film was released on June 29, 1952 by Monogram Pictures and is the twenty-sixth film in the series. Plot After Slip is drafted into the Marines, the rest of the gang volunteer so they can be with him. Sach gets in trouble for first impersonating a doctor and then, while serving kp duty, creating a bouillon capable of melting any known metal. When he's called into their colonel's office for punishment, Sach discovers that his father Horace 'Hard Head' Debussey Sr. served with the colonel in WWI and is subsequently promoted to sergeant. ''Crazy Over Horses'' is a 1951 comedy film starring The Bowery Boys. The film was released on November 18, 1951 by Monogram Pictures and is the twenty-fourth film in the series. Plot Louie is owed money by a stable-owner and sends Slip and the boys over to collect the debt. They return with a horse, My Girl, as payment. Local gangsters want the horse and switch their horse, Tarzana, for the gang's horse. They boys discover the ruse and the horses are switched several more times. After the boys finally procure the real My Girl, Sach races her against Tarzana (the gangster's horse) and several others, ending with a photo finish in which My Girl beats Tarzana by a tongue. The Bowery Boys are fictional New York City characters, portrayed by a company of New York actors, who were the subject of 48 feature films released by Monogram Pictures and its successor Allied Artists Pictures Corporation from 1946 through 1958. The Bowery Boys were successors of the East Side Kids, who had been the subject of films since 1940. The group originated as the Dead End Kids, who originally appeared in the 1937 film ''Dead End.'' William Benedict
William Benedict (April 16, 1917 – November 25, 1999), was an American actor, perhaps best known for playing "Whitey" in Monogram Pictures' The Bowery Boys series. Early years Benedict was born in Haskell, Oklahoma, After his father's death when Billy was three years old, his mother supported him and his two sisters. He took part in school theatricals, and on leaving school he made his way to Hollywood. Career Benedict's first film was ''$10 Raise'' (1935) starring Edward Everett Horton, which launched the blond-haired young man on a busy career.
