Holcomb is a city in Finney County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 2,245. History Holcomb took its name from a local hog farmer. The city was a station and shipping point on the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. The first post office in Holcomb was established in December 1909. 1959 murders The town of Holcomb was thrust into national and, eventually, international notoriety after November 15, 1959, when four members of the prominent Clutter family (father Herbert, 48; his wife Bonnie, 45; their youngest daughter, Nancy, 16; and son Kenyon, 15) were found bound and shot to death in various rooms of their home, on the family's River Valley Farm on the outskirts of Holcomb. Holcomb Creek Falls
Holcomb Creek Falls, located in the Chattooga River Ranger District of the Chattahoochee National Forest in Rabun County, Georgia, drop 120 feet over shoals. There is 1.75 mile loop hiking trail that provides access to both Holcomb Creek Falls and nearby Ammons Creek Falls. A wooden observation deck has been built to allow views of the waterfall. Holcomb Observatory and Planetarium is a part of Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. First observatory In 1888, the university built its first observatory when the campus was located on the east side of Indianapolis. The observatory housed a telescope that was purchased from the estate of Robert McKim of Madison, Indiana that year. The lens for the telescope was manufactured by Alvan Clark & Sons in 1883 and was originally part of McKim's personal observatory located near his home in Madison. When the campus moved to the north side of Indianapolis in 1928, the old observatory on the Irvington campus was torn down. The telescope was reconditioned in the 1930s and remounted on the new campus, but sat unused until 1945.
