Amory Holbrook
Amory Holbrook (August 15, 1820 – September 26, 1866) was an American attorney and politician in the Oregon Territory. He was the first United States Attorney for the territory and later served as mayor of Oregon City and in the Oregon Legislative Assembly. Early years Holbrook was born on August 15, 1820, on the United States East Coast. He attended Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, where he graduated in 1841. John Holbrook (bishop)
John Edward Holbrook (born 14 June 1962) is a Church of England bishop. He is the Bishop of Brixworth in the Diocese of Peterborough. He had been Rural Dean of Wimborne in the Diocese of Salisbury and served as Acting Bishop of Leicester (of the Diocese of Leicester). Education and ministry Holbrook grew up in Bristol where he was educated at the Bristol Cathedral Choir School. As an undergraduate he studied theology at St Peter's College, Oxford, where he obtained his MA (Oxbridge MA after a BA(Hons)). Canon Percy Holbrook MA (July 1859 – 31 July 1946) was born in Reading, Berkshire, England, the son of a silk mercer or draper. He was vicar of the Church of St Mark, Old Leeds Road, Huddersfield, and Holy Trinity Church, Trinity Square, Nottingham, and was Hon. Canon of Woodborough in Southwark Cathedral. During his working life he chaired and supported numerous church and charitable organisations. The ''Nottingham Post'' said of him that he "had original ideas and courage to express them," and that "he endeared himself to successive generations of parishioners and citizens ... Commander Norman Douglas Holbrook VC (9 July 1888 – 3 July 1976) was a British naval recipient of the Victoria Cross (VC), the highest award of the British honours system. Holbrook was the first submariner to be awarded the VC and it was the first naval VC gazetted in the First World War. Early life Holbrook was born on 9 July 1888 in Southsea, Hampshire, fourth son of Colonel Sir Arthur Holbrook and his wife Amelia (nee Parks). Lucius Roy Holbrook (April 30, 1875 – October 19, 1952) was a major general who commanded the United States Army's Philippine Department from 1936 to 1938. Early life and family history Holbrook was born in Arkansaw, Wisconsin. He was a son of Willard Francis and Mary (Ames) Holbrook. His father was born at Wrentham, Massachusetts, on April 27, 1827, and died September 17, 1886. Rear Admiral Leonard Stanley Holbrook MVO (1 January 1882 – 29 August 1974) was a senior officer in the Royal Navy. He was the Commodore Commanding His Majesty's Australian Squadron from 29 May 1931 to 7 April 1932. Justin Holbrook (born 13 January 1976) is an Australian professional rugby league coach who is the head coach of the Gold Coast Titans in the NRL and former professional rugby league footballer. Brigadier Julian St. Clair Holbrook (7 August 1897 – 1980) was a British Army officer. Holbrook was commissioned into the Royal Artillery on 21 April 1915, having attended the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich. He saw service in the First World War, during which he awarded the Military Cross. He saw further active service in the Waziristan campaign (1919–20), during which he was mentioned in dispatches. Josiah Holbrook (June 17, 1788 – June 20, 1854) was the initiator and organizer of the lyceum movement in the United States. He formed the first industrial school in the country in 1819, organized the first lyceum school in the country in 1826 and inspired the foundation of the American Lyceum Association, the first national education association. He founded the Holbrook School Apparatus Manufacturing Company and made a variety of teacher aid items for common schools and scientific training aids for teachers to use in lyceums.
