The Hoisington team was a minor league baseball team briefly based in Hoisington, Kansas. In 1905, the Hoisington team played as members of the Class D level Kansas State League, hosting home games at the Hoisington Base Ball Park. Hoisington began play after the Kingman team folded from the league. History Hoisington, Kansas first hosted minor league baseball during the 1905 season. After beginning league play on June 15, 1905, as charter members of the six–team Class D level Kansas State League, the Kingman, Kansas folded on July 22, 1905. On July 22, 1905, the "Hoisington" team replaced Kingman and began Kansas State League play. Beginning play in the charter season of the Class D level league, the Kingman/Hoisington team finished last. Kansas State League
The Kansas State League was a minor league baseball league in the United States that operated in the state of Kansas in the late 19th century and into the early 20th century. History The Kansas State League was first established in 1887 as a Minor League Baseball "no classification" league and existed for that year only. The league continued again and played in 1895 to 1896 as a "no classification" league. Progressing into the 20th century, the circuit played in 1905–1906 as a class D league and this stint lasted two years. The last segment of the league operated as a class D league from 1909–1911, and 1913–1914. The original Kansas State League ceased operation in 1911, merged with the Central Kansas League, and the 1912 season was played under the CKL name. In 1913, the CKL switched back to the Kansas State League name. After the 1914 season the league permanently disbanded. Hoisington is a city in Barton County, Kansas, Barton County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 United States census, 2020 census, the population of the city was 2,699. History In 1886, a group of Barton County businessmen formed the Central Kansas Town Company and founded the town of Hoisington to attract the Missouri Pacific Railroad, Kansas and Colorado Railroad to the area. They named the settlement after Andrew J. Hoisington, one of the company partners and a prominent businessman in nearby Great Bend, Kansas, Great Bend. The railroad reached Hoisington in the fall of 1886, and the settlement was municipal corporation, incorporated as a city in 1887. The post office, relocated from nearby Buena Vista, was renamed Hoisington in April 1887 as was the railroad station, originally named Monon, by 1889.
