Aldi
Aldi (stylised as ALDI) is the common company brand name of two German multinational family-owned discount supermarket chains operating over 10,000 stores in 20 countries. The chain was founded by brothers Karl and Theo Albrecht in 1946, when they took over their mother's store in Essen. The business was split into two separate groups in 1960, that later became Aldi Nord, headquartered in Essen, and Aldi Süd, headquartered in Mülheim. In 1962, they introduced the name Aldi (a syllabic abbreviation for Albrecht Diskont), which is pronounced . Franz Hofer
Franz Hofer (November 27, 1902 – February 18, 1975) was, in the time of the Third Reich, the Nazism, Nazi Gauleiter of the state of Tyrol, Tyrol and Vorarlberg. As the Nazi party chief for the Tirol/Vorarlberg province he was the most powerful figure in the region. As the area's supreme Nazi, Hofer dealt directly with Hitler or with the Führer's deputy, Martin Bormann. Hofer was not only the party chief but the Reichskommissar in charge of the Tirol-Vorarlberg defences. His region embraced much of the suspected National Redoubt. Indeed, Hofer might well be considered the father of the Redoubt. Miklós Hofer
Miklós Hofer (8 May 1931 – 10 January 2011) was a Hungarian architect. Hofer was born in Bozsok, Hungary. He undertook his undergraduate studies at the Budapest Technical University in 1954 and gained a master's degree in 1958. He worked for the Department of Public Works from 1955 and became a teacher at the university in 1973. He became president of the Hungarian Society of Architects in 1964, taking part in the planning of numerous towns and cities. He retired in 2001. Hofer died in Budapest on 10 January 2011. Maria Hofer
Maria Hofer (1894–1977) was a renowned organist, pianist and composer. The daughter of an accomplished female singer, she was born in Amstetten, Lower Austria. Already as a child she was learning the organ, and within a few years was permitted to participate in church services as organist. Maria Hofer’s later musical education took place at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, where she studied piano teaching. She also began an organ study, but soon resigned because she did not get along with her teacher. According to Maria Hofer's Curriculum Vitae written in 1966/1967 and other auto/biographical documents her tutors included Franz Schmidt, Hermann Graedener, Ernst Ludwig, and Richard Stöhr. Karl Christian Ludwig Hofer or ''Carl Hofer'' (11 October 1878, Karlsruhe – 3 April 1955, Berlin) was a German expressionist painter. He was director of the Berlin Academy of Fine Arts. One of the most prominent painters of expressionism, he never was a member of one of the expressionist painting groups, like "Die Brücke", but was influenced by their painters. His work was among those considered degenerate art by the Nazis, but after World War II he regained recognition as one of the leading German painters. Life Hofer was born in 1878 in Karlsruhe. Four weeks after his birth, his father, the military musician Karl Friedrich Hofer, died of a lung disease. Johann Hofer (18 August 1810 in Önsbach, Baden – 4 August 1880 in Offenburg) was a German lawyer. He and his wife Amalie Hofer, née Weissenrieder (12 September 1820 in Gengenbach, 18 February 1872) were agitators and revolutionaries in the 1848 Revolution. Afterwards, he and his wife sought refuge first in Switzerland, and then from July 1851 in Hoboken, New Jersey. They were able to return home to Germany in the 1860s, and did so. Helmut Otto Hofer (22 October 1912 in Mährisch Weisskirchen, Moravia - 26 July 1989 in Kassel) was an Austrian zoologist and anatomist. Hofer received his Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Vienna in 1937. From 1938 until 1945 he was at the State Museum of Zoology in Dresden, Germany, although, because of the annexation of Austria by Germany in 1938, his work was interrupted by military service in the German army. From 1949 until 1953, he worked as a research assistant at the Zoological Institute of the University of Vienna, and from 1953 until 1965 he was a researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Brain Research in Giessen and then in Frankfurt am Main.
