Alun Hoddinott
Alun Hoddinott CBE (11 August 1929 – 11 March 2008) was a Welsh composer of classical music, one of the first to receive international recognition. Life and works Hoddinott was born in Bargoed, Glamorganshire, Wales. He was educated at Gowerton Grammar school before matriculating to University College, Cardiff, and later studied privately with Arthur Benjamin. His first major composition, the Clarinet Concerto, was performed at the Cheltenham Festival of 1954 by Gervase de Peyer with the Hallé Orchestra and Sir John Barbirolli. This brought Hoddinott a national profile, which was followed by a string of commissions by leading orchestras and soloists. These commissions continued up to his death, and he was championed by some of the most distinguished singers and instrumentalists of the 20th century. Diana M Hoddinott (born 1941) is an English actress. She is best known for playing Annie Hacker, the wife of Jim Hacker, in the television comedy serials ''Yes Minister'' and ''Yes, Prime Minister''. She also had a role in the historical film, '' The Gathering Storm'', as Mrs Landemare, the Churchills' housekeeper at Chartwell House. Biography Hoddinott was born at Wincanton, Somerset, the daughter of Alan Hoddinott (1907–1985) and his wife Winifred née Dibble (1909–2003). Frank Hoddinott
Francis Hoddinott (29 November 1894 – November 1980), also known as Tom Hoddinott, was a Welsh association footballer. As well as being a professional footballer, he also boxed professionally in the 1920s. Career Born in Brecon, Hoddinott started his career in the Southern League with Aberdare Athletic, before moving to reigning Southern League champions Watford in 1919. Hoddinott's opportunities were limited in 1919–20; he played 13 of Watford's 43 fixtures, scoring 7 goals. Watford joined the Football League the following season. Hoddinott finished it as Watford's top scorer with 25 goals in all competitions. Additionally, he became the first player in Watford's history to earn international caps whilst at the club, and at the end of the season was sold to Chelsea for a fee of £3,500; higher than anything Watford had previously received. John Hoddinott (born 11 October 1961), is a Canadian economist and the Howard Edward Babcock Professor of Food, Nutrition and Public Policy at Cornell University. In 2002–2015, Hoddinott was a Deputy Division Director at the International Food Policy Research Institute. Since 1997, he has been a research associate at the Centre for the Study of African Economies at the University of Oxford. Hoddinott received his DPhil in 1989 from Oxford University. Biography Hoddinott grew up in Toronto, Canada. He obtained his bachelor's degree in economics at the University of Toronto in 1984 and MA in economics in 1986 at York University in Canada. John Hoddinott
Sir John Charles Hoddinott (21 September 1944 – 13 August 2001) was a senior British police officer who rose through the ranks to become Chief Constable of Hampshire Constabulary. He was born in Winchester, Hampshire and educated at Barton Peveril Grammar School in Eastleigh. Both his father and grandfather had served in the Hampshire Constabulary. Hoddinott however joined the Metropolitan Police as a cadet in 1961, becoming a constable in 1963, a sergeant in 1967 and an Inspector in 1969. In the latter year he attended Trinity College, Cambridge, and was awarded a degree in Law and Economics in 1972. After returning to duty with the Metropolitan Police he was transferred to the Obscene Publications squad as a Chief Inspector and then to the Drug Quad as a Detective Superintendent.
