Hobro
Hobro () is an old market and railway town in Region Nordjylland on the Jutland peninsula in northern Denmark. It has a population of 12,071 (1 January 2022). The town is situated in a hilly terrain at the head of Mariager Fjord, close to the former Viking fortress of Fyrkat. It is the seat of Mariagerfjord municipality. Politics Hobro was until 1 January 2007 also a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') in North Jutland County covering an area of 166 km² and with a total population of 15,318 (2005). Its last mayor was Jørgen Pontoppidan, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party. Hobro municipality ceased to exist due to ''Kommunalreformen'' ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It was merged with Arden, Hadsund, and Mariager municipalities to form the new Mariagerfjord municipality. This created a municipality with an area of 769 km² and a total population of 43,049 (2005). Hobro Station
Hobro railway station ( da, Hobro Station or Hobro Banegård) is a railway station serving the town of Hobro, Denmark. The station is located on the Randers–Aalborg Line from Randers to Aalborg. The station opened in 1869. Hobro station offers direct InterCity services to Copenhagen and Aalborg. The train services are operated by DSB. History The station opened in 1869 with the opening of the Randers-Aalborg railway line from Randers to Aalborg. In 1893, Hobro Station also became the southern terminus of the new Hobro–Aalestrup–Løgstør railway line, until the section between Hobro and Aalestrup was closed in 1966. Hobro Idræts Klub () is a professional association football club based in the town of Hobro, Denmark, that competes in the 1st Division, the second tier of the Danish football league system. The 1st Division (''1. Division'') is the second-highest football league in Denmark, also known as NordicBet Liga for sponsorship reasons. From 1945 to 1991 the 1. Fyrkat
Fyrkat is a former Viking ring castle in Denmark, dating from c. 980 AD. It is located near the town of Hobro, some distance from the present end of the Mariager Fjord in Northern Jutland. The fortress is built on a narrow piece of land, with a stream on one side and swampy area on the other sides. It would have enabled control of the traffic on the main land route between Aalborg and Aarhus. Layout and construction Like the other ring castles (or forts) at Aggersborg or Trelleborg near Slagelse it is designed as exact circle with four gates opposite to each other and connected by two wooden roads that cross in a right angle in the exact middle of the fort. A circle road gave access to the wall. In each of the four quarters stood four Longhouses of the same design arranged in a square with a smaller house in the middle. North Jutland County
North Jutland County ( da, Nordjyllands Amt) is a former county (Danish: ''amt'') in northern Denmark. It was located on the eastern half of Vendsyssel-Thy and the northernmost part of the Jutland peninsula. It was the largest county in Denmark, but with a relatively low population. Mariager Municipality
Until 1 January 2007 Mariager municipality was a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') in Aarhus County on the east coast of the Jutland peninsula in central Denmark. The municipality covered an area of 201 km², and had a total population of 8,300 (2005). Its last mayor was Erik Kirkegaard Mikkelsen, a member of the Conservative People's Party (''Det Konservative Folkeparti'') political party. The main town and the site of its municipal council was the town of Mariager. Mariager municipality ceased to exist as the result of ''Kommunalreformen'' ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). Mariager Fjord
With a length of approximately 35 km (22 statute miles), Mariager Fjord is the longest fjord in Jutland, and the 2nd longest fjord (Tied with Ise Fjord on Zealand), behind Roskilde Fjord in Denmark (Excluding the self-governing territory of Greenland). Mariager Fjord cuts into the Jutland peninsula from the ''Kattegat'' sea and ends at the town of Hobro; other important towns along the fjord are Hadsund and Mariager from which the fjord takes its name. Mariager fjord makes up most of the southern limit of the traditional region of Himmerland. In Danish language, any type of inlet in Denmark is called a fjord, even lagoons. Geologically, Mariager Fjord isn't a true fjord, but an inlet of the förde type. Arden Municipality
Arden municipality was a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') in North Jutland County on the Jutland peninsula in northern Denmark until 1 January 2007. The municipality covered an area of 228 km2, and had a total population of 8,513 (2005). Its last mayor was Hans Christian Maarup, a member of the Social Democrats (''Socialdemokraterne'') political party. The main town and the site of its municipal council was the town of Arden.
