Hobbe Smith
Hobbe Smith (7 December 1862, Witmarsum – 1 May 1942, Amsterdam) was a Dutch painter, watercolorist and graphic designer, in the Post-Impressionist style. Biography His father was a house painter and he was apprenticed to a lithographer at a young age. He attended the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten, the ''Tekenacademie (Antwerpen)'', and the Quellinusschool. Thanks to a wealthy patron who liked his work, he was able to receive a Royal Scholarship and studied at the Rijksakademie with August Allebé. Later, he took classes at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp with Charles Verlat.Profile @ the Rijksbureau voor Kunsthistorische Documentatie. He painted a wide variety of subjects, including nudes, still lifes, portraits, historical scenes and seascapes, influenced by Jacob Maris. In 1888, he won the Willink van Collenprijs. Arti Et Amicitiae
Arti et Amicitiae (lat .: For Art and Friendship) is a Dutch artist's society founded in 1839, and located on the Rokin in Amsterdam. The Society (also called Arti for short) has played a key role in the Netherlands art scene and in particular in the Amsterdam art schools. It was and is to this day a hub for artists and art lovers in the city of Amsterdam. It is a private institution which supports artists, maintains social networks and offers a pension fund. In recent times it has been one of the venues for the 17th edition of the Sonic Acts Festival. Arti et Amicitiae is also the name of the building. The complex was merged from two separate buildings and given a white neo-classical facade by J. H. Leliman in 1855. Amsterdam Museum
The Amsterdam Museum, known until 2010 as the Amsterdam Historical Museum, is an Amsterdam-based museum dedicated to the city's past and present. Due to the renovation of its main location, the museum is temporarily located in the building the Amstelhof on the Amstel River, together with the Hermitage Amsterdam and the dependence of the Museum van de Geest. History The museum opened in 1926 in the Waag, one of Amsterdam's 15th-century city gates. It has been located since 1975 in a former convent that was used from 1581 onwards as Amsterdam's municipal orphanage.
