Hobart Rangers
Hobart Rangers Soccer Club was an Australian soccer club which was based in Hobart, Tasmania. It was established in 1958 out of the old Hydro SC, that played in Tasmanian Division 2 South from 1954 until 1957. The Hydro team was re-branded for the 1958 season, but only lasted for nine seasons due to lack of support. During their short history, the Rangers manage to win both the State Championship and Southern Premiership in 1962. The team qualified for participation in the Australia Cup in 1963. At the end of the 1967 season, Hobart Rangers merged with Caledonians. History Prior to their rebranding as Hobart Rangers, staff of the Drawing Office of the HEC had entered a team in the Southern Division 2 League under the name of "Hydro" from 1954 until 1957. The Southern Championship is an association football league in Southern Tasmania. It is jointly with the Northern Championship, the second highest level soccer competition in Tasmania. The Tasmanian soccer championship describes the method of determining the best soccer club in Tasmania, Australia. The championship has been decided using three different formats; a statewide league, a playoff between Northern and Southern league Champions and lastly a statewide finals system with top teams from Northern and Southern leagues. Formats Tasmanian Statewide League The Tasmanian Statewide League was the highest state-level competition in Tasmania prior to being disbanded in 2000. Nationally, it was on par with Australia's other state leagues, below the National Soccer League. Kingborough Lions United Football Club is a semi-professional association football club based in Kingston, Tasmania. Founded in 1998, the club currently competes many leagues including in the NPL Tasmania and the Women's Super League. The club has a large playing group ranging and teams range from juniors, youth academy, and social teams through to high performance men and women's programs. Hydro Tasmania, known for most of its history as the Hydro-Electric Commission (HEC) or The Hydro, is the trading name of the Hydro-Electric Corporation, a Tasmanian Government business enterprise which is the predominant electricity generator in the state of Tasmania, Australia. The Hydro was originally oriented towards hydro-electricity, due to Tasmania's dramatic topography and relatively high rainfall in the central and western parts of the state.
