Ho Lap College
Ho Lap College (), HLC, is a band-one grant-aided co-educational grammar school in San Po Kong, Kowloon, Hong Kong. Founded in 1969, it is a well-established secondary school in the area. In particular, HLC enjoys the status of one of the few " English as the Medium of Instruction" (EMI) school in the Kowloon district. History Ho Lap College is the first government-aided secondary school sponsored by the Sik Sik Yuen. Its history dates back to 1961, when a committee was set up to deal with the establishment of a new school. Mr. Wong Wan-tin was elected as the committee's Chief Commissioner. With government funding, the school's foundation stone laying ceremony took place on 7 October 1966, the birthday of Master Wong Tai Sin. Mr. David MacDougall, Registrar General, was the guest of honour. That year was significant as it marked the 45th anniversary of Sik Sik Yuen. Cantopop
Cantopop (a contraction of "Cantonese pop music") or HK-pop (short for "Hong Kong pop music") is a genre of pop music written in standard Chinese and sung in Cantonese. Cantopop is also used to refer to the cultural context of its production and consumption. The genre began in the 1970s and became associated with Hong Kong popular music from the middle of the decade. Cantopop then reached its height of popularity in the 1980s and 1990s before slowly declining in the 2000s and experiencing a slight revival in the 2010s. The term "Cantopop" itself was coined in 1978 after "Cantorock", a term first used in 1974. In the eighties Cantopop has reached its highest glory with fanbase and concerts from allover the world, especially from Mainland China, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, and Japan. Education in Hong Kong used to be largely modelled on that of the United Kingdom, particularly the English system. Since 2012, the overhaul of secondary school diploma has introduced changes to the number of school years as well as the two-tier general examinations. Wong Tai Sin Temple (Hong Kong)
Wong Tai Sin Temple is a well known shrine and tourist attraction in Hong Kong. It is dedicated to Wong Tai Sin, or the Great Immortal Wong. The Taoist temple is famed for the many prayers answered: "What you request is what you get" () via a practice called ''kau chim''. The temple is located on the southern side of Lion Rock in the north of Kowloon. History In the early 20th century, Leung Renyan () spread the influence of Wong Tai Sin from Xiqiao Mountain in Nanhai, Guangdong Province of China to Wan Chai in Hong Kong. Wong Tai Sin was obscure and largely unknown before Leung took it to Hong Kong. Leung arrived in Hong Kong in 1915 from Rengang village. He rented an apartment in Wan Chai, and set up an altar to Wong Tai Sin in his apartment. For the image of Wong Tai Sin, he used a picture of Wong Tai Sin which he brought from Rengang village. Wong Yeung-tat (; born 29 May 1979) is a Hong Kong social activist and the founder and former leader of radical populist group Civic Passion. Biography Wong was born in Hong Kong and graduated from Hong Kong Baptist University. He joined Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB) and became a screenwriter. He later quit TVB and started his career as a novelist in 2004. Wong became active in politics in 2010 when he began to host online radio shows for Hong Kong Reporter, an internet radio station affiliated with the democratic party People Power. He quickly rose as the protege of democrat legislator Raymond Wong Yuk-man. In February 2012, Wong helped found activist group, Civic Passion. San Po Kong
San Po Kong () is an area in New Kowloon in Hong Kong. It is largely industrial and partly residential. Administratively, it belongs to Wong Tai Sin District. Location San Po Kong is located south of Wong Tai Sin and Diamond Hill, north of the former Kai Tak International Airport and west of Ngau Chai Wan. The area is bounded by Choi Hung Road and Prince Edward Road East. History Village San Po Kong was a new village replacing the old Po Kong Village that was destroyed by the Japanese in 1943. The original village consisted of terraced housing and a small forested area along a hill. The hill was partially levelled by the Japanese during the extension of the runway at Kai Tak during World War II. Today the old village hill is now site of the Choi Hung Road Playground.
