Historic Churches Of Sai Kung
The historic churches of Sai Kung are Roman Catholic churches and chapels established in the 19th and 20th centuries by missionaries in the Sai Kung Peninsula and surrounding islands, across modern day administrative areas: the Sai Kung District and Sai Kung North of Tai Po District. History The churches were established by missionaries from the Seminary of Foreign Missions of Milan (now the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions). The first missionary to take up residence in Sai Kung Peninsula, in 1865, was Fr. P. Gaetano Origo (1835-1868). A first chapel was opened in Sai Kung Town, the market town of Sai Kung in the late 1865. Yim Tin Tsai (Sai Kung)
Yim Tin Tze (or Yim Tin Tsai, ) is a small offshore island in Sai Kung District, Hong Kong. As of 2013 there is at least one person living on the island again after a long absence of a permanent population. Geography The island has an area of 24 hectares (49 acres). Sheung Shui (, literally "Above-water") is an area in the New Territories, Hong Kong. Sheung Shui Town, a part of this area, is part of the Fanling–Sheung Shui New Town in the North District of Hong Kong. Fanling Town is to its southeast. History Shek Wu Hui () used to be the marketplace of the Sheung Shui area, before the development of Sheung Shui Town. Pak Sha O
Pak Sha O () is an area and a village of Sai Kung North, in Tai Po District, Hong Kong. Administration Pak Sha O and Pak Sha O Ha Yeung () are recognized villages under the New Territories Small House Policy. History It has been reported that the villages of Sham Chung, Lai Chi Chong and Pak Sha O had historically close social ties. At the time of the 1911 census, the population of Pak Sha O was 117. The number of males was 52. Chapel Pak Sha O is the site of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel (). A first chapel was built in Pak Sha O in 1880 on another site. The conversion of Pak Sha O into a Catholic village partly resulted from the desire of the villagers to combat the harassment of the tax-lords of Sheung Shui. The current chapel was built between 1915 and 1923. The Antiquities Advisory Board (AAB) is a statutory body of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region with the responsibility of advising the Antiquities Authority on any matters relating to antiquities and monuments. The AAB was established in 1976 along with the Antiquities and Monuments Office (AMO) when the Antiquities and Monuments Ordinance (Cap. 53) was enacted, and comprises members appointed by the Chief Executive. The corresponding governmental ministry is the Development Bureau, and executive support for the AAB is provided by the AMO which is under the Development Bureau. Tan Ka Wan () is a village in the Sai Kung North area of Tai Po District, Hong Kong. Administration Tan Ka Wan is a recognized village under the New Territories Small House Policy. Geography Tan Ka Wan comprises several smaller villages: Tse Uk (), Lau Uk (), Lam Uk () and Mo Uk (). The village cluster is mainly concentrated near the coast of Long Harbour. Together with nearby Ko Lau Wan, Tan Ka Wan forms an enclave within Sai Kung East Country Park. A natural stream in Tan Ka Wan flows from south to north towards Long Harbour.
