Leopold Hirschfeld
Leopold Hirschfeld ( hu, Lipót Hirschfeld, 1798, Bonyhád – 1893, Pécs), was Hungarian people, Hungarian Hungarian Jews, Jewish brewer in Pécs, Hungary, Habsburg monarchy, Habsburg Empire. He founded in 1848 the Pécsi Sörfőzde. Life Leopold Hirschfeld was born in Bonyhád, Hungary where he was dealing with grain trade and later learnt brewering. In the 1840s he moved to Pécs, Baranya County (former), Baranya with the aim to set up there his own brewery. At that time there were several breweries in Baranya. They worked in guilds with the permission of the responsible city council, but could produce just in little amounts despite a growing demand. Leopold bought the small brewery of the hospital of Pécs in 1848 and transformed it into a big beer manufacture during the 1850s. Otto Hirschfeld
Otto Hirschfeld (March 16, 1843 – March 27, 1922) was a German epigraphist and professor of ancient history who was a native of Königsberg. In 1863 received a doctorate from the University of Königsberg, and in 1869 became a professor at the University of Göttingen. In 1872 he became a professor of classical studies at the Charles University in Prague, University of Prague, and in 1876 a professor of epigraphy and ancient history at the University of Vienna. In 1885 he succeeded Theodor Mommsen (1817-1903) as professor of ancient history at the University of Berlin, where he remained until his retirement in 1917. At Vienna he organized the Archaeologic-Epigraphic Seminary with archaeologist Alexander Conze (1831-1914). Hirschfeld edited several volumes of the ''Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum'', in which he largely dealt with epigraphy, inscriptions of Gaul and Germania. The Hirschfeld-Eddy Foundation (Hirschfeld-Eddy-Stiftung) was founded in Berlin in June 2007. It is a foundation focused on human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people. Name origin The Foundation's name remembers two personalities who are important for the worldwide struggle for the Human Rights of gay people: Dr Magnus Hirschfeld (1868–1935), after the German physician, sexologist, sexual reformer and civil rights activist and FannyAnn Eddy (1974–2004), the prominent lesbian human rights activist from Sierra Leone, who was murdered in 2004. Yizhar Hirschfeld
Yizhar Hirschfeld (1950 – 16 November 2006) was an Israeli archaeologist studying Greco-Roman and Byzantine archaeology. He was an associate professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and director of excavations at a number of sites around Israel, including Ramat Hanadiv, Tiberias, and Khirbet ed-Deir. He also published a book on the archaeology of Qumran in which he proposed an assessment of the site that was contrary to prevailing views. Professor Hirschfeld was born at Kibbutz Beth Keshet in Israel in 1950. He was already working on an excavation site in 1974 at Emmaus where he acted as excavation and survey director. Wilson Hirschfeld (September 4, 1916 — March 2, 1974) was a journalist and former managing editor of ''The Plain Dealer''. In his teenage years Wilson attended Glenville High School along with Superman creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, graduating in 1934. He served on Glenville High School's student newspaper, "The Torch", alongside Siegel and Shuster. It is believed that Wilson was the model for Superman's alter-ego, Clark Kent. In 1936 he started his career at ''The Plain Dealer'' (Cleveland, Ohio), delivering newspapers inside the building.
