Hiram Eugene
Hiram Eugene (born November 24, 1980) is a former American football safety in the National Football League (NFL). He was originally signed by the Oakland Raiders as an undrafted free agent in 2005 and played for the team for six seasons. He played college football at Louisiana Tech University. College career Eugene attended Louisiana Tech University for two years and was a student and a letterman in football. In football, as a senior, he recorded 29 tackles and a sack. Professional career Eugene went undrafted and signed with the Oakland Raiders practice squad in 2005. In 2007, Eugene was named the starter at safety after Stuart Schweigert played ahead. In 2008, after Michael Huff was benched for poor tackling, Eugene was named the starter. On March 9, 2011, Eugene signed a four-year contract keeping him with the Raiders. Safety (American Football Position)
Safety is a position in gridiron football on the defense. The safeties are defensive backs who line up ten to fifteen yards from the line of scrimmage. There are two variations of the position: the free safety and the strong safety. Their duties depend on the defensive scheme. The defensive responsibilities of the safety and cornerback usually involve pass coverage towards the middle and sidelines of the field. While American (11-player) formations generally use two safeties, Canadian (12-player) formations generally have one safety and two defensive halfbacks, a position not used in the American game. The 2010 Oakland Raiders season was the team's 41st season in the National Football League and their 51st overall. It also marked the last full season under the ownership of Al Davis, who died in October 2011.
