The American plaice, American sole or long rough dab (''Hippoglossoides platessoides'') is a North Atlantic flatfish that belongs, along with other right-eyed flounders, to the family Pleuronectidae. In the northwest Atlantic (''H. p. platessoides'') it ranges from Greenland and Labrador to Rhode Island, and in the northeast Atlantic (''H. p. limandoides'') it ranges from Murmansk to the English Channel, Ireland and Iceland.Muus, B., J. The flathead sole (''Hippoglossoides elassodon'') is a flatfish of the family Pleuronectidae. It is a demersal fish that lives on soft, silty or muddy bottoms at depths of up to . Its native habitat is the northern Pacific, from the seas of Japan and Okhotsk, across the Bering Sea and to the coast of North America, as far south as Point Reyes, United States. Description The flathead sole is a right-eyed flounder with an oval-shaped body.
