Hinundayan, Southern Leyte
Hinundayan, officially the Municipality of Hinundayan ( Kabalian: ''Lungsod san Hinundayan''; ceb, Lungsod sa Hinundayan; tl, Bayan ng Hinundayan), is a 5th class municipality in the province of Southern Leyte, Philippines. According to the Hinundayan has a total land area of 6,108 hectares or 61.08 square kilometers, comprising 17 barangays. 2020 census, it has a population of 12,398 people. Etymology During the 17th century, there were Spanish sailors who by chance arrived at our shores in Barangay Sabang. At that time, the fisherfolks and villagers were very busy setting up "''handayanans''" or resting place for their outrigger canoes. These handayanans were made up of posts with horizontal rails which were a meter high from the ground where the canoes and other sea crafts were laid after use. Abuyog, Leyte
Abuyog (IPA: ɐ'bujog, officially the Municipality of Abuyog ( war, Bungto han Abuyog; ceb, Lungsod sa Abuyog; tl, Bayan ng Abuyog), is a 1st class municipality in the province of Leyte, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 61,216 people. Facing Leyte Gulf out into the Philippine Sea, it is the largest town of the island of Leyte in terms of land area. Southern Leyte ( ceb, Habagatang Leyte; Kabalian: ''Habagatan nga Leyte''; war, Salatan nga Leyte; tl, Timog Leyte), officially the Province of Southern Leyte, is a province in the Philippines located in the Eastern Visayas region. Kabalian Language
The Kabalian (Cabalian) language, ''Kinabalian'', is spoken in the municipality of San Juan in the province of Southern Leyte in the Philippines. It is closely related to Waray-Waray. Native speakers refer to the language as ''Cabalianon'' or ''Kinabalianon''. This language shares certain characteristics with Cebuano, Boholano, and Surigaonon mainly because of the seafaring livelihood of pre-Hispanic inhabitants of Cabalian, documented by Spanish explorers.
