Hrafn Gunnlaugsson
Hrafn Gunnlaugsson (born 17 June 1948) is an Icelandic film director. He is the brother of mathematician Þorvaldur Gunnlaugsson and the lawyer Snædís Gunnlaugsdóttir and the actress Tinna Gunnlaugsdóttir. He is mostly known for his series of Viking films, sometimes called "Cod Westerns". He was married to Edda Kristjánsdóttir and they have four children: Kristján born 1968 who is a poet and playwright, Tinna who is an actress, Sól who is an art designer and Örk who is an artist and was born in 1993. He won the award for Best Director at the 20th Guldbagge Awards for ''When the Raven Flies''. Iceland has submitted films for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film since 1981. The first film to be sent to AMPAS by Iceland was ''Land and Sons'' which was released in Iceland in 1980. Since then, Iceland has sent in a film every year. Only one Icelandic film, '' Börn náttúrunnar'' (''Children of Nature''), directed by Friðrik Þór Friðriksson, has received a nomination for Best Foreign Language Film. However, a second, '' Djúpið'' (''The Deep''), made the nine-film shortlist in 2012, and a third, '' Síðasti bærinn'' (''The Last Farm'') by Rúnar Rúnarsson, was also nominated for Best Live Action Short in 2006. Friðrik Þór Friðriksson's films have been selected to represent Iceland six times- more than any other Icelandic director. This is a list of submissions to the 66th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film was created in 1956 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to honour non-English-speaking films produced outside the United States. The award is handed out annually, and is accepted by the winning film's director, although it is considered an award for the submitting country as a whole. Countries are invited by the Academy to submit their best films for competition according to strict rules, with only one film being accepted from each country. For the 66th Academy Awards, thirty-five films were submitted in the category Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Guðbjörg Edda Björgvinsdóttir (born 13 September 1952), better known as Edda Björgvinsdóttir, is an Icelandic actress, comedian, writer, director and motivational speaker. Agneta Prytz (15 December 1916 – 4 July 2008) was a Swedish movie and stage actress who appeared in thirty-six films over the course of her career. Prytz was the wife of Swedish director, Gösta Folke. Prytz was born Ingrid Agneta Prytz on 15 December 1916 in the city of Gothenburg, Sweden. She worked in many roles at the Gothenburg City Theatre from 1942 until 1946. Her breakthrough film came in the Gösta Folke directed film, ''Neglected by His Wife'', in 1947. Prytz and Folke were also married later in 1947. She continued to be cast in several of his films and TV movies during her career. Helgi Skúlason
Helgi Skúlason (4 September 1933 – 25 September 1996) was an Icelandic actor and stage director. Early life and education Helgi was born in Keflavík and attended the district school at Laugarvatn; he trained as an actor at the National Theatre of Iceland school, finishing in 1954. Career He began his career with the National Theatre. In 1959 he joined the Reykjavík Theatre Company, remaining with that company until 1976 as an actor and director and serving terms as its president and on its board, until he rejoined the National Theatre in 1976. He also directed a number of productions for the RÚV Playhouse. In 1972 he co-founded the Icelandic Directors' Association (Félag leikstjóra á Íslandi) and was its first chairman. In 1964 he won the Silver Lamp Award for the best performance by an actor for his role as Franz in an adaptation of Jean-Paul Sartre's ''The Condemned of Altona''.
