Himmo, King Of Jerusalem
''Himmo, King of Jerusalem'' (Hebrew: חימו מלך ירושלים, tr. ''Himmo Melech Yerushalaim'') is a 1987 Israeli independent underground dramatic art film directed by Amos Guttman. Plot Adapted by from an eponymous 1966 novel by Yoram Kaniuk, the film, set in an abandoned monastery-turned-clinic (the film was shot at the Monastery of the Cross), unfolds during the siege of Jerusalem in 1948. A young and beautiful volunteer nurse, Hamutal Horowitz ( Alona Kimhi), is romantically drawn to the enigmatic Himmo Perach (Ofer Shikartsi), a mortally wounded and mutilated soldier and former charismatic philanderer who cannot speak (except when he asks to be shot, though nobody in the monastery has the courage to do so) or move as he had most of his limbs removed without anesthesia due to severe shortages. Amos Guttman
Amos Guttman ( he, עמוס גוטמן; May 10, 1954 – February 16, 1993) was an Israeli film director, born in Romania. He directed the first ever Israeli LGBT-themed film and most of his films were based on events that happened in his own personal life. Biography Guttman was born in Sita Buzăului, district of Covasna, in Transylvania, Romania and emigrated to Israel at the age of seven with his family. He studied film at Beit Zvi. Between 1975 and 1982, Guttman directed three short films: ''A Safe Place'', ''Returning Premiers'', and ''Drifting''. In 1983, he directed his feature debut, '' Drifting'' (no relation to the earlier short film). He then directed three other feature films: '' Bar 51'' (1985), '' Himmo, King of Jerusalem'' (1987), and ''Amazing Grace'' (1992). History On 4 March 1984 Haaretz Group CEO Amos Schocken announced that a new daily newspaper, ''Hadashot'' was to be launched, with Yossi Klein as editor. It was one of the first Israeli newspapers to use colour printing. The paper was soon hit by a scandal as it published details of the Kav 300 affair in violation of the Israeli Military Censor.
