Himekami
is a Japanese new-age musical group, founded in 1980 by composer Yoshiaki Hoshi as , changing its name to Himekami in 1984. The band's name is derived from Mount Himekami in Morioka, Iwate Prefecture. The group's current line-up consists of synthesizer player and vocalists Wakako Nakajima, Tomoko Fujii, Junko Shiwa, and Yoriko Sano. The album ''Ama Takami no Kuni'' was the first released by the group following founder Hoshi's death in October 2004. Higher Octave Music has released a number of their albums in North America. Mount Himekami ( ja, 姫神山, ''Himekami-san'') is a mountain in Morioka, Iwate Prefecture, Japan. It lends its name to the band Himekami. Mt. Himekami is about north of urban Morioka and features alpine flora and views of Mount Iwate. A relatively easy hike to its summit is practicable from April to November. Yoshiaki Hoshi
, born in Wakayanagi, Miyagi, Japan, was a Japanese musician best known for his band Himekami. Hoshi won the 1971 Victor Electronic Music Contest, and founded Himekami Sensation in 1980. His debut album was ''Oku no Hosomichi'', released in 1981. In 1984, the group name was changed to Himekami. Hoshi was known for being very friendly with his fans, and thanking them for purchasing his works. The music was basically electronic, new-age with sounds of nature and elements of traditional Japanese music. Hoshi died of a heart attack on October 1, 2004, at 1:21am. His funeral service was held on October 24, 2004, at a Shinto shrine in Hiraizumi, Iwate Prefecture is a prefecture of Japan located in the Tōhoku region of Honshu. Higher Octave Music is a sub-label imprint of Narada Productions. Since 2013, it is part of Universal Music Group's Capitol Music Group, which is located in Los Angeles. History Higher Octave was acquired by Virgin Records on behalf of EMI in 1997. In 2004, Higher Octave's offices in Malibu, California, were closed and the label was folded into Narada Productions at a reduced level of staffing and activity while retaining its imprint as a sub-label of Narada. is the capital city of Iwate Prefecture located in the Tōhoku region of northern Japan. Matsuo Bashō
born then was the most famous poet of the Edo period in Japan. During his lifetime, Bashō was recognized for his works in the collaborative '' haikai no renga'' form; today, after centuries of commentary, he is recognized as the greatest master of haiku (then called hokku). He is also well known for his travel essays beginning with '' Records of a Weather-Exposed Skeleton'' (1684), written after his journey west to Kyoto and Nara.
