Hills District, Queensland
The Hills District is the name of group of suburbs in the City of Moreton Bay, Queensland, Australia. Although informally defined, the term traditionally refers to Ferny Hills, Arana Hills, and Everton Hills. Geography The Hills District is bounded to the south by Kedron Brook Creek and to the north by the forested areas of Bunya. History Suburban development in the Hills District commenced in the Arana Hills area in 1957, in the Everton Hills area in 1959 and in the Ferny Hills area in 1960. The City of Moreton Bay, known until July 2023 as the Moreton Bay Region, is a local government area in the north of the Brisbane metropolitan city in South East Queensland, Australia. Ferny Hills is a suburb in the Moreton Bay Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Ferny Hills had a population of 8,739 people. Geography Ferny Hills is north-west of Brisbane, the state capital, and is located along Samford Road. Informally it is part of the Hills District. The western part of the suburb is within the Samford Conservation Park. The eastern part of the suburb is residential. History Ferny Hills is situated in the Yugarabul traditional Indigenous Australian country. Ferny Way State School opened on 27 January 1970. In 1973 it was renamed Ferny Hills State School. Arana Hills is a suburb in the Moreton Bay Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Arana Hills had a population of 6,810 people. Geography Arana Hill is located north-west of Brisbane, the capital city of Queensland and on the edge of the Bunyaville Forest Reserve. Informally it is part of the Hills District. History Pine Community School opened in Arana Hills on 24 January 1983. In 2008, Arana Hills was affected by severe thunderstorms that also affected many properties in northern Brisbane, causing millions of dollars of damage. Many volunteers and SES crews were needed to help clean up the damage. The area has now returned to its original state, but with the loss of some trees. Everton Hills is a suburb in the Moreton Bay Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Everton Hills had a population of 5,938 people. Geography Located in the north-west of the Brisbane metropolitan area, the suburb extends northwest from Everton Park; this separation of suburbs is marked by a park called 'Boundary Park'. Bunya is a suburb in the Moreton Bay Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Bunya had a population of 1,916 people. Geography Bunya is north-west of Brisbane, the capital city of Queensland. The suburb is bounded to the north by the South Pine River. Bunya Crossing is a ford across the South Pine River in the south of the locality (). Keperra is a suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Keperra had a population of 6,807 people. It is located by road north-west of the Brisbane GPO.
