Hillis Hadjo
Josiah Francis, also called Francis the Prophet, native name Hillis Hadjo ("crazy-brave medicine") (c. 1770–1818), was "a charismatic religious leader" of the Red Stick Creek Indians. According to the historian Frank Owsley, he became "the most ardent advocate of war against the white man, as he believed in the supremacy of the Creek culture over that of the whites". He traveled to London as a representative of several related tribal groups, unsuccessfully seeking British support against the expansionism of the United States, then was captured and hanged by General Andrew Jackson shortly after his return to Spanish Florida. Llewellya Hillis
Llewellya Williams Hillis (1930 – March 23, 2019), later Llewellya Hillis-Colinvaux, was a Canadian-born American marine biologist. Early life Llewellya Hillis was born in Windsor, Ontario and raised in Walkerville. She graduated from Walkerville Collegiate Institute. Her father Llewellyn Hillis worked at an automotive plant, and her mother Pearl Evelina Hillis was a teacher. She earned her bachelor's degree at Queen's University in 1952. In 1957 she completed her doctoral work in botany at the University of Michigan; her thesis titled "A Revision of the Genus Halimeda (order Siphonales)" was published in 1959. As a graduate student, she did research at the Marine Biological Laboratory at Woods Hole, Massachusetts. Rick Hillis was a Canadian poet and short story writer. Life He graduated from the University of Saskatchewan and the Iowa Writers Workshop, with an MFA. He attended Stanford University as a Stegner Fellow and Jones Lecturer in fiction writing, and was also a Chesterfield Film Writers’ Fellow at Universal Studios. He taught creative writing at a number of institutions, including Reed College, Stanford University, Lewis & Clark College, and the University of Oregon. Peyton Derek Hillis (born January 21, 1986) is a former American football running back who played in the National Football League (NFL). Hillis attended Conway High School in Conway, Arkansas and was a highly touted recruit. Hillis attended the University of Arkansas where he was primarily used as a fullback. After being drafted in the seventh round of the 2008 NFL Draft, Hillis rose to the top of the depth chart as the starting fullback for the Denver Broncos. Cllr Norman Hillis is an Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) politician from Northern Ireland, who was a Member of the Northern Ireland Assembly (MLA) for East Londonderry from 2003 to 2007. Hillis was educated at Coleraine Academical Institution and the former Coleraine Technical College and has been active in the business community of Portrush where he has been president of the resort's Chamber of Commerce and Coleraine Lions Club. Newell Dwight Hillis (September 2, 1858 – February 25, 1929) was a Congregationalist minister, writer, and philosopher from Brooklyn. He served as pastor of the historic Plymouth Church of the Pilgrims in Brooklyn, and he oversaw the completion of the last major renovation of the church.
