Hillhead (ward)
Hillhead (Ward 11) is one of the 23 wards of Glasgow City Council. On its creation in 2007 and in 2012 it returned four council members, using the single transferable vote system. For the 2017 Glasgow City Council election, the boundaries were changed substantially, the ward slightly decreased in population and returned three members. Boundaries Situated to the west of Glasgow city centre, the core of the ward which has remained since its 2007 creation consists of Hillhead, Kelvinbridge, Gilmorehill (the University of Glasgow main campus), Woodlands and Woodside, with boundaries being the M8 motorway to the south-east and the Port Dundas branch of the Forth and Clyde Canal to the north-east. A82 Road
The A82 is a major road in Scotland that runs from Glasgow to Inverness via Fort William, Highland, Fort William. It is one of the principal north-south routes in Scotland and is mostly a trunk road managed by Transport Scotland, who view it as an important link from the Central Belt to the Scottish Highlands and beyond. The road passes close to numerous landmarks, including; Loch Lomond, Rannoch Moor, Glen Coe, the Ballachulish Bridge, Ben Nevis, the Commando Memorial, Loch Ness, and Urquhart Castle. The route is derived in several places from the Old military roads of Scotland, military roads constructed through the Highlands by George Wade, General George Wade and William Caulfeild (British Army officer), Major William Caulfeild in the 18th century, along with later roads constructed by Thomas Telford in the 19th. Hyndland
Hyndland is a residential area in the West End of the city of Glasgow, Scotland. Description Bordering Broomhill, Dowanhill, Kelvinside and Partickhill, it is an upper-middle-class neighbourhood populated mainly by professionals (many employed at the nearby University of Glasgow) and a number of noted authors, poets, actors, comedians and footballers. Average property prices in the area are considerably higher than the Glasgow or Scottish averages. The area is defined by quiet streets and red sandstone tenements, many of which are fronted by communal city gardens, often embellished with ornate doorway carvings and stained glass windows, built in the late Victorian and Edwardian eras. There are also a number of townhouses built during these periods which contribute significantly to the area's character. Scottish Greens
The Scottish Greens (also known as the Scottish Green Party; gd, Pàrtaidh Uaine na h-Alba ; sco, Scots Green Pairtie) are a green political party in Scotland. The party has seven MSPs in the Scottish Parliament as of May 2021. As of the 2022 local elections, the party sits on 13 of the 32 Scottish local councils, with a total of 35 councillors. Scottish Labour ( gd, Pàrtaidh Làbarach na h-Alba, sco, Scots Labour Pairty; officially the Scottish Labour Party) is a social democratic political party in Scotland. Hanzala Malik
Hanzala Shaheed Malik (born 26 November 1956) is a Scottish Labour Party politician. He was a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for the Glasgow region from 2011 until 2016. Early life and career Born in Glasgow to a Pakistani father and a Scottish mother on 26 November 1956, Malik gained a BSc degree in Computing with Business Administration from the University of Paisley. 2007 Glasgow City Council Election
Elections to Glasgow City Council were held on 3 May 2007, the same day as the other 2007 Scottish local elections, Scottish local government elections and the Scottish Parliament 2007 Scottish Parliament election, general election. The election was the first one using 21 new ward (politics), wards created as a result of the Local Governance (Scotland) Act 2004, each ward elected three or four councillors using the single transferable vote system form of proportional representation. The new wards replaced 79 single-member wards which used the Plurality voting system, plurality (first past the post) system of election. Anderston/City/Yorkhill (Ward 10) is one of the 23 wards of Glasgow City Council. Created as Anderston/City in 2007, it returned four council members, using the single transferable vote system. The same criteria applied in 2012. For the 2017 Glasgow City Council election, the boundaries were changed, the ward slightly decreased in size (although slightly increased in population) and was renamed ''Anderston/City/Yorkhill'', still returning four councillors. Boundaries The ward covers Glasgow city centre and the Merchant City which contain many office and retail premises but also some residential buildings, and also includes the more heavily populated areas of Cowcaddens, Garnethill and Townhead north of the city centre, along with the campuses of both the University of Strathclyde and Glasgow Caledonian University, with the M8 motorway being the northern boundary and High Street the eastern. Kelvingrove Park
Kelvingrove Park is a public park located on the River Kelvin in the West End of the city of Glasgow, Scotland, containing the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. History Kelvingrove Park was originally created as the West End Park in 1852, and was partly designed by Sir Joseph Paxton, Head Gardener at Chatsworth House, whose other works included The Crystal Palace in London, Glasgow Botanic Gardens, and the gardens at Lismore Castle in County Waterford; however, the park was mostly designed by architect Charles Wilson and surveyor Thomas Kyle. The Town Council had purchased the land, which formerly represented parts of the Kelvingrove and Woodlands estates, that year for the sum of £99,569, around £10.9 million as of 2021. Park District, Glasgow
The Park District of the West End of the city of Glasgow, Scotland, is an affluent area located around Park Circus, which sits atop Woodlands Hill, beside Kelvingrove Park. Overview The Park District area is bordered by the City Centre, Kelvingrove, Kelvingrove Park and Woodlands. Park Circus was built between 1855 and 1863. Many of the area's large townhouses that were converted to offices during the latter half of the 20th century are being returned to residential use. It was declared a Conservation Area in 1970. Prior to 2013, the City of Glasgow civil marriage rooms were located at 22 Park Circus, in the former Italian consulate. Canal (Ward 16) is one of the 23 wards of Glasgow City Council. Since its creation in 2007 it has returned four council members, using the single transferable vote system. For the 2017 Glasgow City Council election, the boundaries were changed and the ward decreased in population, but continued to return four councillors.
