Hill County is a county in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 35,874. Its county seat is Hillsboro. The county is named for George Washington Hill, secretary of war and secretary of the navy under the Republic of Texas. Hill County is part of Central Texas, though not included in Texas Hill Country. Hill County Courthouse
The Hill County Courthouse is a courthouse building in the town of Hillsboro, Texas, Hillsboro, Hill County, Texas, Hill County, Texas. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971. The building was designed by architect W.C. Dodson using a Second Empire style. It was completed in 1890. The building was designated as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1964, and was listed on the National Register in 1971. Structure The building is a limestone structure fronted by Corinthian columns and having mansard roofs, with three floors of courtrooms and a seven-story clock tower rising from the middle. 1993 electrical fire On January 1, 1993, the courthouse was heavily damaged by an electrical fire. It was rebuilt, courtesy of donations from around the world and two concerts sponsored by Hill County native Willie Nelson. Limestone County, Texas
Limestone County is a county in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 22,146. Its county seat is Groesbeck. The county was created in 1846. History Native Americans Indians friendly to the settlers resided in East Texas before the Kiowa, Apache and Comanche intruded upon their territory. These tribes hunted, farmed the land, and were adept traders. The Tawakoni branch of Wichita Indians originated north of Texas, but migrated south into east Texas. From 1843 onward, the Tawakoni were part of treaties made by both the Republic of Texas and the United States. Tawakoni were also sometimes known as Tehuacana. Navarro County ( ) is a county in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, the population was 52,624. Its county seat is Corsicana. The county is named for José Antonio Navarro, a Tejano leader in the Texas Revolution who signed the Texas Declaration of Independence. Navarro County comprises the Corsicana, TX Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is also part of the Dallas- Fort Worth, TX Combined Statistical Area. History Navarro County was formed from Robertson County in 1846. Ellis County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of 2020, its population was estimated to be 192,455. The county seat is Waxahachie. The county was founded in 1849 and organized the next year. It is named for Richard Ellis, president of the convention that produced the Texas Declaration of Independence. Ellis County is included in the Dallas– Fort Worth– Arlington metropolitan statistical area. Johnson County, Texas
Johnson County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 179,927. Its county seat is Cleburne. Johnson County is named for Middleton Johnson, a Texas Ranger, soldier, and politician. Johnson County is included in the Dallas– Fort Worth– Arlington metropolitan statistical area. History The first settler of Johnson County was Henry Briden, who built a log cabin on the Nolan River in 1849. State Highway 174 (Texas)
State Highway 174 (SH 174) is a state highway in Texas that connects Meridian and Burleson. Route description SH 174 begins in Bosque County at an intersection with SH 22 in Meridian. The route travels northward out of the city and through Morgan. It briefly enters Hill County, passing to the north of Lake Whitney and the town of Blum, before crossing into Johnson County. Heading north into Cleburne, SH 174 has agreement with SH 171 and FM 4 through the city's downtown, where the routes cross Bus. US 67. After separating from SH 171 and FM 4, SH 174 has an interchange with the US 67 expressway before heading northward out of the city. State Highway 171 (SH 171) is a southeast–northwest state highway in northeastern Texas, United States, that connects U.S. Highway 84 (US 84) in Mexia with U.S. Highway 180 (US 180) in Weatherford. State Highway 81 (SH 81) is a Texas state highway that runs from Hillsboro to Grandview. It was designated in 1991 to replace U.S. Highway 81, which was decommissioned south of Fort Worth. Route description SH 81 begins along the ramp from northbound I-35's exit 364B; the route is accessible from the southbound freeway at exit 364A for FM 310. It travels north into Hillsboro along Abbott Avenue. SH 81 has a half-mile concurrency with SH 22/ SH 171 through the city's downtown before continuing northward along Waco Street.
