Hilger is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Fergus County, Montana, United States. The community is located along U.S. Highway 191 in central Fergus County. Hilger has a post office with the ZIP code 59451. It is 15 miles north of Lewistown. Demographics History A post office has been in operation in Hilger since 1911. The community was named for settler and historian David J. Hilger. Sister Marie Inez Hilger (October 16, 1891 - May 18, 1977) was an American Benedictine nun and anthropologist who was the first woman admitted to the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. Biography Sister Marie Inez Hilger was born in Roscoe, Minnesota, October 16, 1891. Sister Mary Irma Hilger (July 12, 1917 – February 22, 2003) was an American religious sister, who trained as a nurse and founded the St. Jude Hospital and nurse's training school on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia. She has been called the "Florence Nightingale of St. Lucia". Early life Mary Irma Hilger was born on July 12, 1917, in Ost, Reno County, Kansas to Katherine May and Peter M. Hilger. She joined the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother in 1935 and went on to obtain a bachelor's degree and master's degree in nursing from Saint Louis University, in St. Louis, Missouri. Russell Todd Hilger (May 9, 1962 – December 24, 2019) was an American professional football player who was a quarterback in the National Football League (NFL). He played eight seasons for the Los Angeles Raiders, Detroit Lions, Indianapolis Colts and Seattle Seahawks. Oklahoma State University Hilger played college football at Oklahoma State University, and is regarded as one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in Oklahoma State history. As a Sophomore in 1981, Hilger guided the Cowboys to its first post-season bowl since 1976 against Texas A&M in the Independence bowl.
