Hilda G. Tagle
Hilda G. Tagle (born 1946) is a Senior United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas. Early life and education Born in Corpus Christi, Texas, Her last name is of Spanish and Arabic origins. Hilda was raised in a small South Texas town called Robstown. Of five children, Tagle was the eldest. Hilda has four younger brothers who currently reside in Corpus Christi. She was raised Catholic by her mother and attended church with her mother on a regular basis. She enjoyed reading books at an early age and spent most of her time in the local library. Her advanced reading skills allowed her to skip the second grade. Hilda's mother encouraged her to become a licensed beautician at the age of sixteen. Hilda never worked as a beautician. Senior Status
Senior status is a form of semi-retirement for United States federal judges. To qualify, a judge in the Federal judiciary of the United States, federal court system must be at least 65 years old, and the sum of the judge's age and years of service as a federal judge must be at least 80 years. As long as senior judges carry at least a 25 percent caseload or meet other criteria for activity, they remain entitled to maintain a staffed office and chambers, including a secretary and their normal complement of law clerks, and they continue to receive annual cost-of-living increases. Senior judges vacate their seats on the bench, and the President of the United States, president may appoint new full-time judges to fill those seats. Some U.S. states have similar systems for senior judges. A law clerk or a judicial clerk is a person, generally someone who provides direct counsel and assistance to a lawyer or judge by researching issues and drafting legal opinions for cases before the court.
