Highways In Romania
Controlled-access highways in Romania are dual carriageways, grade separated with controlled-access, designed for high speeds. There two types of highways, motorways () and expressways (), with the main difference being that motorways have emergency lanes and slightly wider lanes. The maximum allowed speed limit is and only during poor conditions, while for expressways the limit is . There are no toll roads, but a road vignette is required. The first construction works began in 1967, and the first highway segment was opened in 1972. However, extension of the high-speed road network lagged behind until after EU accession in 2007. Decreased corruption and improved utilization of the allocated EU funds in recent years, enabled Romania to speed up the expansion of its highway network. Aiud
Aiud (; la, Brucla, hu, Nagyenyed, Hungarian pronunciation: ; german: Straßburg am Mieresch) is a city located in Alba County, Transylvania, Romania. The city's population is 22,876. It has the status of municipality and is the 2nd-largest city in the county, after county seat Alba Iulia. The city derives its name ultimately from Saint Giles (Aegidius), to whom the first church in the settlement was dedicated when built. Administration The municipality of Aiud is made up of the city proper and of ten villages. These are divided into four urban villages and six villages which are located outside the city proper but belong to the municipality. A10 Motorway (Romania)
The A10 motorway ( ro, Autostrada A10), also known as the Sebeș–Turda Motorway ( ro, Autostrada Sebeș–Turda), is a motorway in the central-western part of Romania, connecting the A1 and A3 motorways, between the cities of Sebeș and Turda, also providing access to Alba Iulia and Aiud. It is 70 km long, with a total cost of 420 million euro, which is financed in proportion of 85% from the European Union funds, the rest of 15% being insured from the state budget. The motorway's construction was divided into four lots: works for lots 3 and 4 began on 20 May 2014, whereas for the other two lots began in 2015. Since 2021, it has been operational on its entire length. Near Oiejdea, however, it is only operational on two lanes, due to a landslide that occurred in the area that was still not resolved. Fundulea
Fundulea is an agricultural town in Călărași County, Muntenia, Romania. It is on the Bărăgan Plain, approximately 30 km east of the capital Bucharest, in the historical region of Wallachia. It has a population of 7.851. The A2 freeway and Mostiștea River pass through its vicinity. Two villages are administered by the town: Alexandru Ioan Cuza and Gostilele. Cernavodă () is a town in Constanța County, Northern Dobruja, Romania with a population of 20,514. The town's name is derived from the Bulgarian ''černa voda'' (черна вода in Cyrillic), meaning 'black water'. This name is regarded by some scholars as a calque of the earlier Thracian name ''Axíopa'', from IE *''n̥ksei'' 'dark' and ''upā'' 'water' (cf. Fetești
Fetești () is a city in Ialomița County, Muntenia, Romania. It is located in the Bărăgan plain, on the Borcea branch of the Danube. Fetești has the second largest population in Ialomița, after Slobozia. In 1895, the King Carol I railway Bridge was built across the Danube to Cernavodă. A newer one was built in the 1980s as part of the Bucharest- Constanța A2 highway. History The settlement of Fetești was first mentioned in the year 1528, in a document released by the ruler of Wallachia, Radu of Afumați. The A2 motorway ( ro, Autostrada A2), also known as The Motorway of the Sun ( ro, Autostrada Soarelui), is a motorway in Romania which links Bucharest with Constanța, a city-port on the shore of the Black Sea, where it merges after an interchange into the A4 motorway. It is 206 km long, and has been operational on its entire length since November 2012. History The construction of the motorway between Bucharest and Constanța began in the communist era during Nicolae Ceaușescu's regime. The first section, from Fetești to Cernavodă (about 18 km), was opened in 1987 and underwent a major rehabilitation in 2003.
