The Highway Police is a specialized unit of the Bangladesh Police that is responsible for law enforcement on Bangladesh roads. The unit is led by an Additional inspector general of Bangladesh Police. History The Highway Police was established on 11 June 2005 by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party government. It can only investigate crimes under a few sections of Penal Code 1860 and the Motor Vehicle Ordinance, 1983. The Highway Police has jurisdiction over 5,487 kilometre of national highways and 4,165 kilometre of local roads. The Bangladesh Nationalist Party ( bn, বাংলাদেশ জাতীয়তাবাদী দল, Bangladesh Jātīyotābādī Dol; BNP) is a centre-right to right-wing nationalist, political party in Bangladesh and one of the major political parties of Bangladesh. Mohammed Nazibur Rahman is an Additional Inspector General of Bangladesh Police and former rector of Police Staff College, Bangladesh. He is the former Principal of Bangladesh Police Academy. He is a former commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police and director of the National Security Intelligence. Barrister Mahbubur Rahman is a retired Bangladeshi police officer and the former chief of the Criminal Investigation Department. Early life and education Rahman completed his graduate studies from the University of Dhaka in 1985.
