Highway 39 (Arkansas)
Highway 39 (AR 39, Ark. 39, or Hwy. 39) is a designation for two state highways in southeast Arkansas. The western segment of runs from US Route 49 (US 49) at Blackton to US 49/ Highway 241. Another segment of runs north from Highway 1 and Highway 316 near Turner to US 49 in rural Phillips County. Route description Blackton to US 49 The route begins at US 49 at Blackton and runs north to a junction with US 79 in Monroe. The highway turns due west after this intersection until meeting Highway 39 Spur (AR 39S), which connects to US 49. Highway 39 continues to Rich before terminating at a junction of US 49 and Highway 241. A 2010 study of annual average daily traffic (AADT) by the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) reveals that no more than 380 vehicles use any portion of the route on a daily basis. Blackton, Arkansas
Blackton is an unincorporated community in Monroe County, Arkansas, United States. According to The Encyclopedia of Arkansas History and Culture, "little remains of the town." Two nationally registered historic sites are located in or near Blackton. The Palmer House is a brick home built in 1873 located near Blackton that has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The location where the survey of lands acquired in the Louisiana Purchase is located two miles outside of Blackton, now known as Louisiana Purchase State Park, and has been listed as a National Historic Landmark A National Historic Landmark (NHL) is a building, district, object, site, or structure that is officially recognized by the United States government for its outstanding historical significance. Highway 146 (AR 146, Ark. 146, and Hwy. 146) is a designation for two east–west state highways in the Lower Arkansas Delta. One route of begins at US Highway 79 (US 79) near Stuttgart and runs east to the White River at Preston Ferry. A second route of begins at Lawrenceville and runs east to Highway 39 at Noy. Both routes are maintained by the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD). The following is a list of state highways in Arkansas. The state does not use a numbering convention. Generally the two-digit odd numbered highways run north–south with a few exceptions; and even-numbered two-digit state highways run east–west with a few exceptions. Arkansas has long had a stigma of poor roads, dating from the "Arkansas Roads Scandal" playing a prominent role in state politics through the 1920s and 1930s, periodic allegations of corruption, waste, and fraud, and a long-running struggle to adequately fund the operation, maintenance and expansion of a large highway system serving a rural state. The state has received the designation of "worst roads in America" from several publications throughout the 1990s and into the 2000s, with Interstate 30 and Interstate 40 often ranking particularly poorly among truckers. This is a list of state highway spur routes (spurs) in the U.S. state of Arkansas. The spurs are named after List of Arkansas state highways, their parent highways, which leads to multiple designations of the same name in some cases. All spur routes are maintained by the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ArDOT). Shields Arkansas state highway spur routes are signed using standard state highway shield backgrounds. The number remains the same size and a "S" (for spur) is added in an almost-Exponentiation, exponential format. Shield sizes remain, one-digit routes keep the shields, while two-digit routes become . Three-digit routes are the same as the parent route with the "S" placed in the available corner space. Highway 34 (AR 34, Ark. 34, and Hwy. 34) is an east–west state highway in the Upper Arkansas Delta. The route of begins at US Highway 412 (US 412) and U.S. Route 67 Business (US 67B). The route is maintained by the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD). Route description AR 34 begins in Walnut Ridge and runs northeast under US 67 (Future I-57), meeting and concurring with AR 231 until O'Kean. AR 34 meets AR 90 in O'Kean, and runs with it northeast to Delaplaine. The route turns south in Delaplaine to Evening Star, when it heads east to meet AR 141 in Beech Grove. Paragould, Arkansas
Paragould is the county seat of Greene County, and the 19th-largest city in Arkansas, in the United States. The city is located in northeastern Arkansas on the eastern edge of Crowley's Ridge, a geologic anomaly contained within the Arkansas delta. Arkansas Highway 25
Arkansas Highway 25 is a northeast–southwest state highway in north central Arkansas. The route runs from US 64 in Conway to US 63/412 in Black Rock through Greers Ferry, Batesville, and the foothills of The Ozarks. Route description AR 25 begins in Conway at US 64. Near Conway, it is strictly a local route with no direct access to Interstate 40. A I-40 exit west of AR 25 is marked as AR 25 North, but the road serving it is officially called US 64 Spur; its junction with US 64 is 0.7 mile west of AR 25. From Conway, the road runs north to Wooster, where it turns northeast, meeting US 65 in Greenbrier. 1926 Arkansas State Highway Numbering
In 1926, Arkansas renumbered its highways into a more traditional format. The system to be replaced was established in 1924 as Arkansas' first comprehensive highway plan.McLaren, Christie. Roads were designated as "primary federal aid roads", "secondary federal aid roads", or "connecting state roads". This resulted in the first true numbering of state highways in Arkansas.
