Highway 139 (Arkansas)
Highway 139 (AR 139, Ark. 139, and Hwy. 139) is a designation for two north–south state highways in the Upper Arkansas Delta. One route of begins at Highway 158 in Caraway and runs north to Missouri Supplemental Route F at the Missouri state line. A second route of runs from US Highway 412 (US 412) to Missouri Route 51 at the Missouri state line. Both routes are maintained by the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD). Route description Caraway to Missouri AR 139 begins in Caraway at AR 158. The route runs north to AR 18 in Monette. AR 139 continues north to the Missouri state line to terminate at MO-SSR-F. Caraway is a city in Craighead County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,279 at the 2010 census. It is included in the Jonesboro, Arkansas Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The town originally began as a lumber camp known as White Switch in 1912. It was incorporated in 1923, taking its name from then-U.S. Senator Thaddeus Caraway. Geography Caraway is located in the Arkansas Delta region at (35.759143, -90.323051). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 6.0 km2 (2.3 mi2), all land. Kennett, Missouri
Kennett is a city in and the county seat of Dunklin County, Missouri, United States. The city is located in the southeast corner (or " Bootheel") of Missouri, east of Arkansas and from the Mississippi River. It has a population of 10,932 according to the 2010 Census. Kennett is the largest city in the Bootheel, a mostly agricultural area. History White settlers built log cabins in the area in the first half of the 19th century, naming their settlement Chilletecaux in honor of a Delaware Indian chief who lived there. Cardwell is a city in southwest Dunklin County, Missouri, United States. The population was 713 at the 2010 census. The current Mayor of Cardwell is Brandon Cupp and the current aldermen are Harvey Beasley, Mike Clark, and Chuck Walls. History Cardwell was platted in 1895. The community was named after Frank Cardwell, an Arkansas banker who lent money to the town's founders. A post office has been in operation at Cardwell since 1895. Pollard is a city in Clay County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 222 at the 2010 census. History Pollard is named for a family of early settlers who operated a general store that became home to the town's post office in 1876. The post office briefly moved to the nearby Tucker plantation and became known as "Advance," but was eventually restored to Pollard. A railroad line was constructed through Pollard in 1914 to serve area timber operations, and a town was platted around the newly constructed depot. Pollard incorporated in 1921.
