Highwater (film)
''Highwater'' is a 2008 documentary film centered on surfing's Triple Crown competitions, the professional surfing tour's final three competitions held each year on the North Shore of Oahu. The film is directed by Dana Brown, son of famed surfer and filmmaker Bruce Brown. Background Starting on Halloween and ending around Christmas, the competition attracts the sport's best surfers to Oahu's legendary North Shore, known for its huge waves and unparalleled surf. Dana Brown (filmmaker)
Dana Brown (born December 11, 1959, in Dana Point, California) is an American surfer and filmmaker, and is the oldest son of filmmaker Bruce Brown. His films include ''The Endless Summer Revisited'' (2000) which is made up of unused footage from ''The Endless Summer'' (1964) and ''The Endless Summer II'' (1994), as well as some original interviews with the stars of those films. His first all-original film was '' Step Into Liquid'' (2003) followed by a documentary on the Baja 1000 titled ''Dust to Glory'' (2005). In 2009, he debuted a new film called '' Highwater'' during the 100th anniversary of the Santa Monica Pier; the film follows life on the North Shore and the surfers who compete in the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing. John John Florence
John "John John" Alexander Florence (born October 18, 1992) is an American professional surfer. He is known as "one of the most dominant pipe surfers of his era" and won back-to-back world titles on the 2016 World Surf League and 2017 World Surf League Men's Championship Tour. He is the first Hawaii-born surfer to win back-to-back world titles since the late Andy Irons and one of five to ever achieve the feat. In 2019, Florence qualified to represent the United States at the 2020 Summer Olympics in surfing. From 2018 he has been struggling with some knee injuries. Lisa Andersen (born March 8, 1969) is an American four-time world surfing champion. She won four successive world titles from 1994 to 1997. She was named ASP's Rookie of the Year in 1987.
