Highgate, South Australia
Highgate is a suburb of Adelaide in the City of Unley. It is surrounded by Fullarton and Malvern. History European settlers arrived in the area in 1839 and surveyed. Part of section 251, Hundred of Adelaide, was purchased by William Ferguson, who named the 248 acres (100 hectares) ''Rosefield'' after his wife Rosina Ferguson. Fullarton is an inner southern suburb of Adelaide, South Australia in the City of Unley. It adjoins Parkside, Unley, Malvern, Highgate and Myrtle Bank and is bisected by Fullarton Road. The suburb is named after a property near the foothills built in 1842 by William Sanders (1801–1880), who arrived in South Australia in 1838. Urrbrae is a suburb of Adelaide, South Australia. It is located in the City of Mitcham. Located at the foot of the Adelaide Hills, it is bordered on the east by the South Eastern Freeway, and the Old Toll House, which marked the traditional entrance to the city of Adelaide in the 19th century. Kingswood is a suburb of the Australian city of Adelaide in the City of Mitcham. Kingswood is bounded to the west by Belair Road, to the north by Cross Road, to the south by Princes Road and to the east by Unley High School and the western boundaries of properties fronting onto Smith Dorrien Street. Malvern, South Australia
Malvern is an inner-southern suburb of Adelaide in the City of Unley. It borders the suburbs of Unley and Parkside to the north, Highgate to the east, Kingswood to the south and Unley Park to the west. City Of Unley
The City of Unley is a local government area in the Adelaide metropolitan region. It is located directly south of the Adelaide city centre. The Corporate Town of Unley was created in 1871, when 2,000 signatories to a petition from residents of the several towns of Unley, Parkside, Black Forest, Goodwood and Fullarton requested the Governor allow them to form their own municipality and thus sever from the District Council of Mitcham. William Ferguson (pioneer)
William Ferguson (c. 1809 – 3 December 1892) was a pioneer settler of South Australia, one of the last surviving emigrants on in 1836. History Ferguson was a farmer born in Hawick, Scotland, and emigrated in 1836 on what has been termed the "First Fleet of South Australia" on Governor Hindmarsh's flagship ''Buffalo''. His wife, who was pregnant when they embarked, gave birth to their first child on board the ''Buffalo'' in South Australian waters. Ferguson was present at the Proclamation ceremony by the Old Gum Tree on 28 December 1836, and helped thatch the roof of the original Government House. Ferguson purchased two "city acres" in a block stretching between Hindley and Currie Streets, the eastern boundary of which later became a thoroughfare, named Rosina Street after Mrs. Ferguson. White's Rooms, later known as Adelaide Assembly Room, was a privately-owned function centre which opened in 1856 on King William Street, Adelaide, South Australia. It became Garner's Theatre in 1880, then passed through several hands, being known as the Tivoli theatre, Bijou Theatre, Star Picture Theatre and finally in 1916 the Majestic Theatre and Majestic Hotel. History George White (1813 – 12 November 1876) was a Gloucestershire tailor who emigrated with his family to South Australia on the ''Royal Admiral'', arriving in Adelaide in January 1838.
