Higher Learning (soundtrack)
''Music From The Motion Picture "Higher Learning"'' is the soundtrack to John Singleton's 1995 film ''Higher Learning''. It was released on January 3, 1995 on Singleton's label New Deal Music through 550 Music/ Epic Soundtrax and contained a mixture of different music genres including hip hop, R&B and rock music. The soundtrack did fairly well on the ''Billboard'' charts, peaking at #39 on the ''Billboard'' 200 and #9 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. Liz Phair was nominated for Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance at the 37th Annual Grammy Awards for her song "Don't Have Time". All the recordings were initially exclusive to the soundtrack. Two charting singles were included on the soundtrack, Raphael Saadiq's "Ask of You", which peaked at #19 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and #2 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks, and Mista Grimm's " Situation: Grimm", which made it to #97 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks. Culver City, California
Culver City is a city in Los Angeles County, California, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 40,779. Founded in 1917 as a "whites only" sundown town, it is now an ethnically diverse city with what was called the "third-most diverse school district in California" in 2020. John Singleton
John Daniel Singleton (January 6, 1968 April 28, 2019) was an American director, screenwriter, and producer. He made his feature film debut writing and directing ''Boyz n the Hood'' (1991), for which he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Director, becoming, at age 24, the first African American and youngest person to have ever been nominated for that award. Stanley Clarke
Stanley Clarke (born June 30, 1951) is an American bassist, film composer and founding member of Return to Forever, one of the first jazz fusion bands. Clarke gave the bass guitar a prominence it lacked in jazz-related music. He is the first jazz-fusion bassist to headline tours, sell out shows worldwide and have recordings reach gold status. Clarke is a 5-time Grammy winner, with 15 nominations, 3 as a solo artist, 1 with the Stanley Clarke Band, and 1 with Return to Forever. Anthony Wheaton, professionally known by his stage name Sir Jinx, is an American hip hop producer and rapper from Los Angeles. He is a cousin of multi-platinum producer Dr. Dre. Raphael Saadiq (; born Charles Ray Wiggins; May 14, 1966) is an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and record producer. He rose to fame as a member of the multiplatinum group Tony! Organized Noize is an American production team from Atlanta, Georgia composed of Rico Wade, Ray Murray and Sleepy Brown. History Among the hit records they have worked on include TLC's "Waterfalls", En Vogue's "Don't Let Go (Love)", and Ludacris' "Saturday (Oooh! Ooooh!)". Michelle Lynn Johnson, better known as Meshell Ndegeocello (; born August 29, 1968), is a German-born American singer-songwriter, rapper, and bassist. She has gone by the name Meshell Suhaila Bashir-Shakur which is used as a writing credit on some of her later work. Elizabeth Clark Phair (born April 17, 1967) is an American singer-songwriter. Born in New Haven, Connecticut, Phair was raised primarily in the Chicago area. Brad Wood is an American record producer located in Los Angeles. He has produced many albums, including Liz Phair's ''Exile in Guyville'' and Placebo's debut.
