High Sheriff Of Greater Manchester
The Office of High Sheriff of Greater Manchester is the ceremonial position of High Sheriff appointed to Greater Manchester, a metropolitan county in North West England. The appointment is made by the British monarch, in their capacity as Duke of Lancaster, by pricking the Lites. Created in 1974, the High Sheriff of Greater Manchester has the duty to "protect and assist in upholding the dignity and well being of His Majesty's judges and to represent the Queens executive powers in respect of the administration of justice in the county". John Zochonis
Sir John Basil Zochonis (2 October 1929 – 30 November 2013) was a British industrialist and philanthropist, the chairman of PZ Cussons, and the great nephew of its founder, George Zochonis. The Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester is the representative of the monarch, King Charles III in the metropolitan county of Greater Manchester in North West England. As Greater Manchester remains part of the Lancashire County Palatine, the Lord Lieutenant is appointed by the monarch in their capacity as Duke of Lancaster. The office was created on 1 April 1974. Paul Anthony Lee (born January 1946) is a British lawyer and businessperson who from 2009 to 2020 was chairman of the Horserace Betting Levy Board. Career Lee read law at Clare College, Cambridge and joined Addleshaw Sons & Latham, specialising in corporate finance. David Wilmot (January 20, 1814 – March 16, 1868) was an American politician and judge. He served as Representative and a Senator for Pennsylvania and as a judge of the Court of Claims. He is best known for being the prime sponsor and eponym of the Wilmot Proviso, a failed proposal to ban the expansion of slavery to western lands gained in the Mexican Cession.
