''Power'' is the second studio album by American rapper Ice-T, released on September 13, 1988 by Sire Records. Recorded at Syndicate Studios West in Los Angeles, the home studio of DJ Evil E, it was produced by Ice-T and Afrika Islam. The ''Los Angeles Daily News'' noted that its lyrical themes ranged from sex to gun violence, and that Ice-T "implicates everyone from radio programmers to the police as accomplices in the decline of western civilisation." The album contains lyrics which began a feud between Ice-T and rapper LL Cool J. The album cover, which features Ice-T's then-girlfriend Darlene Ortiz, Ice-T, and DJ Evil E, was described as "perpetuating stereotypes" by the ''Chicago Tribune'' and "violence-glorifying" by both the ''Chicago Sun-Times'' and ''The Sydney Morning Herald''. Gangsta Rap
Gangsta rap or gangster rap, initially called reality rap, emerged in the mid- to late 1980s as a controversial hip-hop subgenre whose lyrics assert the culture and values typical of American street gangs and street hustlers. Many gangsta rappers flaunt associations with real street gangs, like the Crips and Bloods. Afrika Islam
Charles Andre Glenn (born 1967), professionally known by his stage name Afrika Islam, is an American hip hop DJ and producer. He was one of the pioneers of hip hop culture and the hip hop radio station. He began his musical career in 1977 as a ten-year-old, joining the group Rock Steady Crew. He started as an apprentice to Afrika Bambaataa, from whom he learned the art of remixing tracks. He was responsible for the events that the Zulu Nation held during the 1970s. A few years later, he moved to Los Angeles where he began working with Ice-T, for whom he produced four gold albums, all of which were released on Sire Records. He went on to remix artists including Michael Jackson and New Order. Afrika Islam is also known for compositions that he wrote for the Soul Sonic Force and his own group called Funk Machine. "I'm Your Pusher" is a 1988 single by American rapper Ice-T, from his second album ''Power''. The song's lyrics recommend the use of music and dancing to feel good rather than using drugs: "The dope I'm selling you don't smoke / You feel out in the dance floor on my world tour / I'm selling dope in each and every record store". However, the anti-drug theme was interpreted as having the opposite message, possibly as a result of misinterpretation of the context of the title, and ignorance as to the actual lyrical content. The song was produced by Ice-T and Afrika Islam for Rhyme Syndicate Productions. It contains a sample from "Pusherman" by Curtis Mayfield.
