The High Commissioner of the United Kingdom to the Republic of Singapore is the United Kingdom's foremost diplomatic representative in Singapore. Singapore, previously a British colony, became an internally self-governing state in 1959 and George Douglas-Hamilton, 10th Earl of Selkirk, was appointed Commissioner (not High Commissioner) for Singapore and South East Asia. In 1963, Singapore declared independence from Britain and joined the new Federation of Malaysia. In 1965, Singapore left Malaysia and became an independent country (as the Republic of Singapore) and a full member of the Commonwealth. Sir Peter James Scott Moon (1 April 1928 – 10 July 1991) was a British diplomat. Career Peter James Scott Moon was educated at Uppingham School and Worcester College, Oxford. He entered the Home Office in 1952 but transferred to the then Commonwealth Relations Office in 1954, serving in South Africa and Ceylon and as private secretary to the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations. He then joined the Diplomatic Service and served at the UK mission to the United Nations in New York 1965–69, at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office 1969–70, as private secretary (foreign affairs) to the prime minister 1970–72, and on the international staff of NATO in Brussels 1972–75. Antony John Phillipson (born 13 January 1971) is a British diplomat, and as of 2021, British High Commissioner to South Africa. He was High Commissioner to Singapore from 2011 to April 2015, and from 2017 to June 2021 was the British Consul-General in New York and Her Majesty's Trade Commissioner for North America. Paul Damian Madden (born 25 April 1959) is a retired British diplomat, who was High Commissioner to Singapore and to Australia, and Ambassador to Japan between 2017 and 2021. Education Madden was educated at The King's School, Ottery St Mary, and Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, where he gained a BA degree in economic geography (later upgraded to MA). He has a Master of Business Administration degree from Durham University. He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.
