The High Commission of Sri Lanka ( si, ශ්රී ලංකා මහ කොමසාරිස් කාර්යාලය, ලන්ඩනය ''Shri Lanka Maha Komasaris Karyalaya Landanaya'') in London is the diplomatic mission of Sri Lanka in the United Kingdom. The former State Councilor Claude Corea was appointed as the representative of the Government of Ceylon to the United Kingdom on 24 September 1946. With Ceylon gaining self rule on 4 February 1948, the High Commission of the Dominion of Ceylon was opened on 22nd October 1948 at 13 Hyde Park Gardens, London. It was the second overseas diplomatic mission of Ceylon and the first embassy established by Ceylon after gaining its independence from Britain. It was renamed in 1972 as the High Commission of the Republic of Sri Lanka. Bayswater
Bayswater is an area within the City of Westminster in West London. It is a built-up district with a population density of 17,500 per square kilometre, and is located between Kensington Gardens to the south, Paddington to the north-east, and Notting Hill to the west. Much of Bayswater was built in the 1800s, and consists of streets and garden squares lined with Victorian stucco terraces; some of which have been subdivided into flats. Hyde Park Gardens
Hyde Park Gardens, also known as Hyde Park Terrace consists of two roads running adjacent to the north western corner of Hyde Park, Westminster, Greater London. Number 1 Hyde Park Gardens runs up to Number 23 with a large private communal garden and then the road separates to allow access to The Ring and into Hyde Park and the neighbouring Kensington Gardens. This section contains the High Commission of Sri Lanka. Numbers 24 to 31 continue on a private gated road also with their own communal gardens buffering them from the busy Bayswater Road. They are amongst the most exclusive properties on the northern side of Hyde Park and date from the early 19th century. Grand white stucco fronted houses now converted into equally grand flats. Tamil (; ' , ) is a Dravidian language natively spoken by the Tamil people of South Asia. Emblem Of Sri Lanka
The national emblem of Sri Lanka is used by the State of Sri Lanka and the Sri Lankan government in connection with the administration and government of the country. The current emblem has been in use since 1972 and created under the ideas and guidance of Nissanka Wijeyeratne. At the time, he was Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and Chairman of the National Emblem and Flag Design Committee. The designer of the emblem was Venerable Mapalagama Wipulasara Maha Thera, and the artwork was by S. M. Seneviratne. Sri Lankan High Commissioner To The United Kingdom
The Sri Lankan High Commissioner to the United Kingdom is the Sri Lankan envoy to United Kingdom. Countries belonging to the Commonwealth of Nations typically exchange High Commissioners, rather than Ambassadors. Though there are a few technical differences (for instance, whereas Ambassadors present their diplomatic credentials to the host country's head of state, High Commissioners are accredited to the head of government), they are in practice one and the same office.
