Hibernians F.C.
Hibernians Football Club is a Maltese professional football club based in the town of Paola. History The club played one season in 1922 as Constitutionals FC, representing the pro-British Constitutional Party. They started up again in the 1927–28 season and became a top amateur side, winning the Amateur League in 1930–31. Meanwhile, the Constitutional Party had upset the Catholic Church so much that, in May 1930, Catholics were told not to vote for the party. The football club changed its name a year later to Hibernians Football Club as a nod to Hibernian, the club founded by Irish Catholics in Edinburgh. They won their first match as Hibernians 2–1, against in October 1931. They had to wait for a place to become available in the professional league, but in January 1933 they joined the league with a 3–1 victory over Sliema Rangers. Andrea Pisanu
Andrea Pisanu (born 7 January 1982) is an Italian football coach and former player who coaches Maltese club Hibernians. Club career Pisanu joined Hellas Verona F.C. from hometown club Cagliari Calcio in February 2001 for 800 million lire (€413,166). He was a member of the reserve team during the 2001–02 season. In June 2002 Verona acquired Pisanu outright from Cagliari. In January 2004 Pisanu left for Varese. In mid-2004 Pisanu joined Serie A club Parma F.C. along with Alessandro Elia and Marco Fanna. During his year stay he played an average of 15 games per seasons. He failed to play any game during the 2009–10 Serie A after winning promotion for the club in 2009 as the runner-up of the 2008–09 Serie B. The Maltese Super Cup is an annual super cup tie held in Malta between the champions of the previous Maltese Premier League season and the holders of the Maltese FA Trophy. In the event that the Premier League champion also won the FA Trophy, the league runners-up takes its place as the opposition. Up till 2003, the match used to be played at the end of the season, however this was altered to be played around mid-December. The current holders are Valletta, who defeated Balzan 2–1 in the final played on 21 December 2019. The 2011–12 Maltese FA Trophy was the 74th season since its establishment. In a change from last season, this year's competition will include all teams from Malta and Gozo. The competition began on 8 September 2011 and will ended 27 May 2012 with the Final in Ta' Qali Stadium. The defending champions are Floriana, having won their 19th Maltese Cup last season and first since 1994. The winner will qualify to the first qualifying round of the 2012–13 UEFA Europa League. Floriana were the defending champions, but were eliminated in the quarter-finals by Hibernians. Maltese FA Trophy
The FA Trophy, currently known as the IZIBET FA Trophy for sponsorship reasons, is an annual football cup competition that takes place in Malta. The cup was founded in 1933; following a match between England and Italy, played in Rome in May 1933, to where a number of pro-British Maltese supporters travelled to support the English side. The Football Association as recognition donated a silver trophy to be played on the model of the FA Cup. The team who wins the cup, wins a place in the First qualifying round of the UEFA Europa Conference League. This competition is now played on a knock-out basis between all the senior clubs in the Maltese and Gozitan football pyramids.
