Hi-Five is an American R&B quintet from Waco, Texas. Hi-Five had a No. 1 hit on ''Billboards Hot 100 in 1991 with "I Like the Way (The Kissing Game)". The band was formed in 1989 and consisted of founding and original members: Tony Thompson, Roderick "Pooh" Clark, Marcus Sanders, Russell Neal, and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, native, Toriano Easley. Early career Hi-Five was originally signed to Jive Records in late 1989 and released their eponymous debut album in 1990. The album was produced by Teddy Riley and went platinum. It included singles "I Just Can't Handle It" (R&B No. 10), " I Can't Wait Another Minute" (Pop No. 8, R&B No.1) and "I Like the Way (The Kissing Game)", which went to number one on the U.S. ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and the U.S. Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart (making it their biggest hit to date). "I Like the Way (The Kissing Game)" is a song recorded by American R&B group Hi-Five for their 1990 eponymous debut studio album. The song was written by Teddy Riley, Bernard Belle and Dave Way, and released as the album's second single on January 2, 1991, by the Jive label. It was a number-one pop song and was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on May 10, 1991. The video has an exceptionally large amount of dark colours and shadows in contrast to the light-hearted and bubblegum pop song that plays. Tony Thompson (singer)
Anthony Ulysses Thompson, Jr. (September 2, 1975 – June 1, 2007) was an American singer–songwriter. Thompson was best known as the lead vocalist of the American R&B quintet Hi-Five, which had hit singles such as "I Like the Way (The Kissing Game)" and " I Can't Wait Another Minute". After the group disbanded in 1994, Thompson found solo success the following year with his debut album '' Sexsational'' in 1995. Biography Thompson was born in Waco, Texas and raised in Oklahoma City. He was named after his father, Anthony Thompson, Sr. In 1984, he started singing solos in the local church choir at the age of eight. He then started singing in local talent shows. Local talent and up-and-coming artist William Walton reached out to Thompson in hopes of making his music dreams a reality. ''Hi-Five'' is the debut album by the American R&B vocal group Hi-Five. Released on September 25, 1990, The album peaked at number thirty eight on the ''Billboard'' 200 albums chart. Driven by the hit singles "I Just Can't Handle It" (R&B #10), "I Like the Way (The Kissing Game)" (#1 R&B/Pop), "I Can't Wait Another Minute" (R&B #1, Pop #8) and "Just Another Girlfriend" (R&B #41), the album received an RIAA platinum certification.
